I have an air over hydraulic in floor lift that I think is from the late 70's or early 80's. It was in bad shape when I got it about 5+ years ago, but has always worked so I never messed with it. It just started seeping a couple of months ago. The badges are worn away, so I have never known what kind of lift it is. It has a roughly 33.25" circumference which gave me a 10.58" diameter. If someone can tell me where I can figure out what seal to buy, brand, or a company that could help me ID this and sell me the part. Also, does anyone know where I may be able to find pdf files or other information for disassembly and replacement of this seal?

Since I got it it was extremely dirty. I cleaned it best I could without screwing up the seal years ago. I have always just swept around it because the seal has always looked bad. I want to take everything off the top when I do this so I can clean that ring like new, install a new seal, paint the concrete there, and paint the lift. I dont want a broken lift in my shop, so I am really hoping I can get some information. Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe this link could help or at least contact the company with pictures of your lift. Check "autoliftsandparts.com for their in-ground-lift-seal-kit-for-10-5-8-rotary-jk227

From an internet search - maybe Automotive Lift Service in PA could tell you if anyone services those. Remember - if it fails with someone under it or near it need anything else be said. Their number ia (717) 432-5672. They might not work on them but they can probably tell you who does. They are ALI certified.

I have a lift that is very similar. Your leakage is very minimal. You need to remove the top of your hoist, then the gland ring to tell which type of seal you have. Mine had a series of packings divided by neoprene rings. I was able to purchase the packing from a local cylinder repair co.

If it fails, it will descend at a rate slow enough to let anybody but a paraplegic easily escape. The hoist will not fall catastrophically. Evaluate the physics..

The cylinder has a pipe at the bottom of cylinder that all the oil passes through that limits the speed of the cylinder like a shock absorber does . If the cylinder is leaking down you may have a rust hole leak in the lower part of the cylinder. Once you have to start adding oil to the cylinder you have the evidence of a cylinder leak, not a seal leak. Cylinders are low on oil if when nearing the top of the lift you get a speed up and sounds like air is whistling. Most of the Firestone stores around here built in the 1980's have already had to replace most of their lifts because of rust holes in the cylinders. They were installed with out proper corrosion prevention and without using neutral river sand to back fill them as the instructions said.

I would be careful who you tell about this. Shop I walked in yrs ago had an in ground tank start leaking. The company called to do the repair would only do epa OKd repairs. In this case it involved draining that tank, filling it w/ sand so it wouldn't work it's way up through the macadam parking lot, and installing a new above ground tank. Lots of $.

The ones I was involved in attempting to reseal had U Cup primary seals and also some kind of wiper ring IIRC.

Hi looking at your inground lift..it could be a Globe or Ford smith..there's a company in IL call S.V.I. Corp. In Dekalb,IL .my dad's old inground looks similar..I believe it's a Globe..model. From the 1960s or 70s .. today costs in 2023 that lift will cost u around 9 grand..new Plus install..just the superstructure ,top I would say it's worth 3 grand . Towards the cost of replacement..if u choose to dig up your old one....you can reuse it superstructure..ul save money..I have a 1983 inground single post ..here at home ..I resqude..from the bulldozer....no cost to me..with the oil tank..it's got an oil valve along with the air fill valve..Its now working .. after sitting over 35 Plus yrs ..in a abandoned shop..roof leaking on it..so on ..I plugged in a gas air compressor and wow it went up..it held in up ..over night..so I knew it's all good to go.. the guys dug it up careful removed the oil tank pump it out dry ..cut up all the unground piping .. everything went on my trailer....took home and restored it sandblasted the tank, outer casing of the piston..new piping..oil tank now above ground....no EPA issue now .. everything underneath the ground was brushed with truck bed liner..no rust out .. working like new with a new piston seal....I hope u got yours working .any questions ..get back to me..
