This was my grandfathers.....Mechanicraft 1/4" ratchet.

It seems quite old but it works perfect. I looked for some info on the company and couldn't find out anything.

Anyone know what era it would be from?

that ratchet is somewhat rare. most are unmarked if i recall. i believe that they were made by wright. someone with more expertise may pipe in.

I have a Wright that looks similar but there are some differences, On your rat it looks like the handle and the head are 2 seperate pieces where my Wright is One. It could be the angle/Pic etc, Not sure but Definitely a keeper.

Hmm, this is interesting, and a bit confusing. I thought it was established that the unmarked version, that looks like the OP's ratchet, was made by Wright? Hiball's example is slightly different, so now I'm not so sure. Maybe Wright made a 2 piece version, and a 1 piece version??

I have several of those type ratchets and several of them come apart into two pieces, the two piece ones I have seem to be a cheaper tool.

Same ratchet, flash on one pic
