Howdy.

Now that's it's warmed up I'll be able to finish my garage floor and wanted to get some advice on the process.

Here's the plan for my 400 sq/ft floor:

Fill cracks
  • crack chase
  • scrub with circular wire brush
  • clean with simple green
  • fill with quikrete crack sealant
Seal
  • Clean, scrub and pressure wash entire floor with simple green
  • 2 coats of ghostshield 4500 densifier
  • 2 coats of ghostshield 8510 sealant

If I wanted to polish the floor when would I do this (might just leave it natural)? Would it be during the desifier or sealant process?

Anyway, if you see anything I might be missing or have any other advice please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi,
If you plan on mechanically polishing your floor we would recommend you do this after densifying. Sealing should be the final step. Normally only one coat of 4500 is used.

Thank you.

Sounds good! I think I'm also going to add a slight amount of diluted Eco pewter dye to even it all out and make it look extra clean.

Polishing would be done after the densifier but keep in mind, 8510 is a penetrating sealer. If it can't penetrate it wont work. If you want glossy concrete, maybe a single coat of clear polyurea @200 SF / gallon would be a good way to go?

That makes sense. I assume the polyurea layer would go on top of the 8510?

Anyway, I'd much rather have a solid and protected surface so, I'll probably not do any polishing. Seems more trouble than it's worth and saves me some effort too.

btw, I just realized the 8510 I got off amazon came from you!

Thanks!

It would be either or..... Polyurea will definitely protect the floor from oil stains. WIth Polyurea you would need to prep -- etch or grind

Hey guys. Got all the cracks filled and surface cleaned. I applied the GS 4500 densifier and barely used any of the mix. I have a 400 sq/ft garage and with a 3:1 mix for priming, I barely used half a gallon of the mix. I would have expected to use a lot more because it says there is only enough for 1000 sq/ft coverage. I sprayed it on and used a microfiber mop to spread and was very careful to not have any puddling. Did I not use enough of the mix? I'm super confused and concerned I didn't get enough densifier onto the surface.

Thanks!

I believe we spoke on the phone? Some floors it just does not soak in all that rapidly. You can apply twice.

Did another pass and it soaked up another half gallon of the 3:1 mix which means there is 1/4 gallon of concentrated densifier. I assume that's enough? My neighbor was telling me that older concrete is more dense and possibly why it's slower at soaking up the densifier (it's from 1989)?

My floor is looking really nice though!

Hey Justin. Should I do a third densifier pass? At this point there is 1/4 gallon of condensed densifier in my concrete where it should be closer to 1/5 gallon. Do you think 1/4 gallon will be fine? Thanks!
