Hey brick starts in the next week or so on the garage. I wanted to add electrical outlet boxes while the guys are bricking so I don't have to drill out in the future.

Is there a box the size of a standard brick that they can lay in place of a brick? Thanks!

It's not the size of a brick, but Arlington Industries has a flush mount box with integral cover that's designed for use in brick walls. http://www.aifittings.com/catalog/inbox/low-profile-in-box-for-new-brick-construction/ A local electrical supply house should be able to get Arlington products. You could try the local big box stores but this may be a little too specialized for them, or you could go online to Amazon or Platt Electric.

The Handy box shown above will NOT accomodate GFI device.

We always just hung a Romex tail out the building sheathing with a DEEP single gang "Masonry" box w a two screw connector hanging dangling on the tail.

Leave the two screws on the connector slightly loose so cable can be slid in or out.

You do NOT need anything fancier or more expensive.

Mason would exact position and bed into place.

Later, Electrician installs device and uses silicone between gasket and brick.

Done.

Notice the threaded 6/32 holes in link below are INSIDE the confines of the box so the mortar cannot get in the way of the device screws.

Do NOT use a shallow "Handy box".

Do NOT hang out less than like 15" total tail of Romex.

In OP situation, best to have only ONE cable to the box... mostly so bricklayer does not need to fight an octopus.

The easier you make it for the bricklayer, the better job he will do... hopefully anyway.

All I see is the box of 20 and I need like 4. Will these work?

They're kind of shallow and tight, your electrician will curse you. The bigger deeper metal boxes in the earlier response to you would be better.

I have these in white, they are really nice. A little yellowed from the sun after a few years but they definitely have a premium look.

Yes -- there are brick boxes. The tabs for the screws are inside the box ... not outside like a typical. Otherwise you are screwing into mortar. They are deeper.

This will require a surface box.

Arlington makes nice innovative products -- I use them. My only concern here is what if they don't hold up in the sun -- get damaged. My guess is Arlington will be around and the may sell the covers ....

But, an old school box will allow for an old school cover that can always be replaced
