I love having a trailer, but it's alway in the way.

What does everyone do with their trailers so that the whole shop or yard isn't wasted and they're not in your way all the time?

My car hauler style trailer takes up too much room to leave it in the shop year round, but it also wastes a bunch of the yard wherever I leave it. I'd like to get an enclosed trailer for construction tools, but then I'd have to find a place for that too.

Does anyone have good ideas for a decent setup?

I dug out an area off my driveway and dropped a ton of 3/4 stone. It's in a wooded area off the side in my front yard

I’ve left mine in all sort of places. On stones next to my garage, backyard next to my shed, work parking lot (business park)... when I finally moved it to my friends “contractor” parking area it got stolen after a couple weeks.

Have a friend or relative who has space and an occasional need for a trailer? park it there and trade use of your trailer for storage on their property. If you do this just work out in advance how maintenance/repairs will be handled so you don't lose a friend over a breakdown.

find a spot on your lot that is out of the way and you don't use then either pour a pad or put in some gravel. It can't be harder than that unless you want to build a multi-story parking garage with a ramp to the area on top. But if you want to do that hire an engineer to draw the blueprints. It is no different than deciding where to put the couch in the living room.

Throwing out an idea- build a "deck" or raised platform large enough to park the trailer under and just high enough to clear the fenders. Use the platform to store other things on top.

I actually have enough space (2 acres) - I just don't have any good "out-of-the-way" space.

Most guys on a city lot have an unused narrow strip beside the garage that seems to work really well, but my layout just doesn't work out that way. All the space on the sides of my garage and shop are unavailable, so the trailer always ends up right smack in the middle of my shop driveway. Adding a second or third trailer simply won't work.

I can park trailers in the front pasture along the road, but that seems like an eyesore and also an open invitation for someone to just hook up and go.

Do any of you guys with multiple trailers line them up perpendicular to the driveway?

I park mine currently at my office until our barn drive is finished. Locally though there are tons of secure self store places that have pretty reasonable out door parking prices. Frankly this is what I would do if I didn't have my set-up. Although I only use my trailer a few times a year. Do you use it often?

Yeah. That's kinda my point.

I have room, but no way to park anything in back. I made this thread looking for ideas of how to make an "out of the way place".

Just looking for ideas.

One of the factors in building my shop was to have enough room to bring my trailer under cover. I want to be able to come back at the end of a track weekend at whatever (usually awefull) time I get home, hit the remote and open the door, park the trailer, close the door behind it and go into the house and forget about it until it is convenient. Final grading happens this week so we will see how it works out, but that is the goal.

I have an open car trailer and a great spot at the end of drive, but HOA says no. I keep at my work in a yard of company trailers and work trucks. Pretty secure and free.

I have a single axle utility trailer that weighs <600lbs. and I could push it to the back of my property (only 1/2 acre) but only if I were feeling really healthy and didn't mind being sore for a couple days after as it's up hill. It's also meandering through the trees, which is nice as it's not only back far enough where I almost can't see it, it's also where the property ends at a point between my two neighbors' fences so it's secure as well. I finally got a used riding mower and while it's not happy with that kind of weight behind it, it works quite well for parking the trailer as my truck not only wouldn't fit, if it did, it'd tear the **** out of the yard.

Is there a way to make a drive of some sort to an area that would be secure and out of the way without having to spend a mint on grading a gravel?

I have a "slot" area that's shop outer wall on one side and a row of pine & spruce trees on the other and the trailer goes there. Truck in front to make it look more "finished" :) I do secure the trailer but the truck is an additional barrier.

I did the same. Mine's just out front off to the side on gravel. Shop is in the backyard.

I poured a pad between my garage and the house garage for my enclosed trailer. It's a perfect spot as it was just a waste of space small section of yard. However, during the Winter, I store my trailer at the county fairgrounds.

The open car trailer (16') just came home yesterday from being at a friends house since fall. It sits along the edge of the driveway along a the split rail fence and wood pile. Fortunately, we have a fairly large driveway. ...which I'd like to rip part of it out and replace with grass.

Did you or have you considered a storage building just for the trailer and the one you'd like to buy ? It'd allow you to put other stuff like mower/yard equipment in there for more garage space.

Can't get the wife to go along ? Offer to build it with attic trusses....storage for "her."

Fortunately, I have some space and was able to construct a 30’ X 18’ “hanger” with electricity and a 13’ clearance. This allows me to pull though and then position the trailer for easy hook up and exit.

Designate a LEVEL parking area large enough for three or four trailers, gravel it, and landscape to Your satisfaction.

Rather than look like an out of place eyesore; the trailers will look like they belong there.

I feel your pain! I'm going through the same issue right now. I have 6.5 acres and no good place for my 2 trailers!! Most of the property is trees, and the yard is wet and not accessible most of the year. Need to do some thinking and make a drive and parking area.
