Are replacement tool box drawers available from Snap-on?

Hey all,

I'm considering purchasing a KRL7023 that needs some work. The seller hasn't posted photos yet, but apparently it was broken into and one of the drawers is missing and two of the others "need work". It's priced well enough that it could be worth the work to me of fixing it up. I can't find much on Snap-on's site and I can't call because it's Sunday. I know some people have changed drawer configurations when they bought their boxes new, but do they sell replacement drawers outright for a used box?

Maybe I just need to keep an eye out on eBay?

If anyone has replaced drawers before I'd love to hear your experience.

Yes, but they ain't cheap and the paint color can be a chore to match at times. The large drawers get pricey. You'll probably need slides as well.

So I assume they just come primed?

I'm figuring I'll need slides and a replacement lock/keys, which don't look to be too expensive.

I haven't seen the tool box yet, so I don't know what drawers are missing/damaged, so I'm planning for the worst and expecting that it's the large drawers that are the issue. I know they'll be expensive, but even after a bit of money dumped into it, I think I'd still be well below what these boxes sell for on the used market.

The drawers are available and the paint will be an exact match. I don't know why "KRL7023" is not showing up in the Repair Parts section of their site; that really surprised me.

E D I T - I found it!

https://store.snapon.com/-R924833.aspx?ProductName=KRL7023DPBO&IsPartsSearch=1

They want you to enter in the entire part number which is KRL7023DPBO for standard red. But for some reason, they're only listing the narrow replacement drawers. Maybe because the wide drawers are too big to ship.

If it is a standard color things should be available and match fairly well, funky colors get discontinued from time to time and matching those is not as easy as you would think.

It’s Cranberry Red, which I think is a fairly standard color.

As zkling said, damn expensive. Make sure you know exactly how much before pulling the trigger.

Do you have a rough ballpark figure. I just got word from the seller that it's the bottom drawer in the center that's missing.

I'm going to check it out in an hour and a half.

Figure $250 to $500 depending on the width/depth of the drawer, probably more. I was quoted these prices a few years ago when I was thinking of reconfiguring a box, happened to be cranberry too. PS, they pre warned me that the colors would not match exactly. I ended up going a different route.

I toyed with the idea as I too came across a modern box that needed a drawer, don't recall the exact model number. It needed the top, full length deep drawer. Was quoted around 700 with slides (2 sets) amd trim. Yes the trim was extra. I decided the box wasn't that much of a deal after that. I know the guy that bought it. He ended up adding a false front to the drawer below. Works good, looks ok, poor resale value.

I will add, every once in a while I see people selling off drawers as they reconfigure their boxes. You might get lucky and find one, but....how long do you want to wait? If it is that cheap, missing the bottom drawer wouldn't bug me that much.

Depending on how they got into the box, there could be more issies than just the missing drawer that you don't know about.

I just got back from looking at the tool box. It's a lot rougher than I thought. The top drawer and bottom left drawer were both pried open. The bottom drawer I may be able to bend back into shape and then tack weld and be fairly satisfied. The top drawer is a lot more rough. It would probably have to be replaced. The good news is all the drawers move freely. The guy wants $400 for it. Trying to decide if I want to jump on it. It would be a huge space upgrade over the harbor freight that I have. It would just be for home use, so I'm not super concerned about looks, but the mangled drawers would bug me a bit and it sounds like they'll be pretty spendy to replace. I'm still thinking on it...

If it wasn’t my primary box, I would buy it for $400, but if I had to look at it every day, I don’t know if I could handle it.

They used to list all the drawers for all the boxes. They do have the listing for the KRL756 which are $277 for a 2" and $299 for a 4", to give you some idea.

I'd pass.

...Unless you plan to use it as-is and can look past the damage OR are skilled in body work and are itching for a project.

Buying three new drawers and fixing a little trim will likely set you back more than just buying a similar box that's in decent shape to start.

16 functional drawers of 29" deep Snap on roll cab storage for less than the price of a HF 42" box? I'm L. Cheapo and I wouldn't have gone home without it.

I wonder how much that top drawer is?

You can likely find a better deal, I paid $3,000 for a mint KRL7022 loaded with $5,000 worth of tools.

If the "frame" of the box weren't damaged.....$400 would be a good deal.

If you have space and time and a body hammer or two, go for it. Spend some time with the hammer and dolly and get as much straight as you can. If there's one good thing about doing bodywork on a tool box it is the lack of complex curves!

If you lack space or time, pass.

Replacing just the bottom drawer is prolly a couple hundred dollar challenge if you have a driver who likes you and a $500 issue if you don't. Slides appear to still be in place.

I think a mint 7023 in my part of the world is cheap at 2k and expensive at 4k, FYI.

The real damage will be seen once all the drawers are out.

Any of you guys wonder how the box got to be that way in the first place?

That a lot of damage, you can see how they been levered while locked shut .
The missing drawer be 500 bucks range .
top drawer silly money, I could probably hammer and dolly them pretty straight but you looking at painting front of box if wanted it looking pretty decent after repair .
If rest of box pretty good I likely take it for 200-250 but no more as going take plenty time and wedge of $ sort that nicely plus I hate that color .

Do you have a friend that does sheet metal?
You may be able to bend up a replacement front to the top drawer.
The bottom drawer could be made using the other ones as a pattern.

The top rail where bent up could be covered with stainless....

Seems like a good deal, but $400 seems to be that tipping point where I’m asking if it is worth it. Will he take a little less?

If money is owed on it by chance it can be taken and all of that damage is from someone breaking into it - so is it stolen?
