Hey all!

Been dreaming about this for really all 38 years of my life, and especially the last 2 years since this property was in the works. Here goes...

I closed back in January, nice little house (nothing fancy but nice) on 9 acres, pond, some outbuildings etc... and in the country, I was sick of the city life... and best of all, right next door to my parents. They are getting up in the years so I wanted to move close in case to be around for them.

And it's a good thing I did. Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and we lost him back in April. While it breaks my heart that he won't be able to hang out with me in the shop, I know he will be watching over me from above.
This place has been a blessing for that alone as I was able to be close for my Mom in his final days.... now onto the shop.

Got started months late due to Dad's passing, but my dream is becoming a reality. This building was built by local Amish workers back in 2008 and has served as a sheep barn until a few months ago...

It was a mess...

A real mess....

The awesome part about it being a sheep barn is that due to the nature of it housing animals, it has water plumbed in already, and it has outlets galore due to the necessity of needing a lot of heat lamps for the lambs in the winter. - FYI the dimensions are 30x50 for the interior and 16x50 on each side's shed/overhang. The main doors are 14' high.

As for the transformation, concrete was poured about 10 days ago - it looks bad due to the breaks being cut creating a lot of dust in addition to the efflorescence of the concrete itself as it's still setting.

Moving in....

Before the LED's It had regular incandescent bulbs and half were burned out... (And yes the Budweiser sign is getting a more permanent place)

Added some cheapy LED nightlights... literally nightlights, like for kids... around just so it isn't pitch black trying to stumble around in the dark - I know, I'm weird...

I can see!

With the LEDs in. It also showcases how dirty the walls are and how badly I need to clean the new concrete.

Anyway, I guess that's it for now. I will keep updating as this goes along, I cannot tell you how exciting this is for me.

Well, I am in central TN for what it's worth. Concrete was a heavy debate but since I am doing a 4-post lift I didn't have to go nuts for thickness. All of my projects are cars and trucks, nothing agricultural like tractors and stuff.

Concrete is 4" thick 4000psi with fiber mixed in. It was a pretty flat surface honestly so there wasn't a ton of prep, just formed and poured then tapered the entrances (front and back) a bit. As for cost, it was $6k all in with gravel, labor, materials, tax, etc etc. I learned to indeed get multiple estimates and these guys were recommended by a local business so they knew what they were doing. I was really hesitant on 4" but due to the fiber and PSI I did it will serve just fine. They said they run 9000lb skid loaders all over pours like this and have had no issues, even 15 years later. They said they could easily pour it at 6" but said that honestly it would be a waste considering my need. I don't plan on doing a 2-post lift for a few reasons and that was my only concern as far as thickness. Hopefully that helps.

Thank you! Family first, always. It's so nice because if someone had a good arm on them they could step outside on moms porch and throw a baseball and it would hit my shop. As much as I like everything else on the property, Mom as my neighbor is the best part.

Great start on the building transformation and the property acquisition next door to your parents. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Condolences on your father's passing.

I had three quotes, $6000, $6875 and $8000 on similar specs. The crew impressed me from day one all the way to after the fact so I am very happy with the price and the work performed.

That's a great looking space.
Thank you!
Looks great. The Budweiser sign is definitely a cool addition.
I thought so, I got it in trade along with a new bbq grill for an old tiller that smoked so I am happy with it. I have a lot of signage that is slated to go up this weekend - all Mopar stuff and Triumph (Car not Motorcycle). I have one sign that is going to take some serious effort to get hung, but our local Sears closed down last year and I was able to get the sign off the front of the building so that will be a fun project to hang across one wall. The 'S' is approximately 5' tall so it will be a heck of an addition once I get it hung.

Hey 124, nice looking barn. Now there are 2 of us with a "Sheep Shed Shop" :)
Look forward to seeing how yours shapes up. What part of TN?
Do you plan to keep the wainscot paneling and is there insulation behind? What are your plans for the side additions?
