Yep Smitty, I love the split base.---I can't believe that with your affinity for the Prentiss line, that there wouldn't be at least 1 that the heart just can't part with.

If I could only keep 3 vises from my current collection it would have to be:

1.) Rock Island 853 (4.5" Swivel Jaw)
2.) Reed 224 1/2R (4.5" Coachmaker's)
3.) Wilton 600

Umm, yeah that wasn't fun thinking about having to get rid of the other 15 or 20 that I've worked so hard to acquire and restore!

I prefer to think of the top 3 vises I'd like to add to my collection!

1.) Reed 208R / 108R
2.) Athol 622 1/4 or 722 1/8
3.) Reed 205R or 215R

That is truly a remarkable find! Hugh Vogl didn't change the design much at all. Now I'm wondering why York changed their design?

Thanks! I should add the pictures of the first vise (125) were from online, but I'm tempted to buy it. The second vise (60) I already paid for and is on the way to my collection.

Finished up my "Ode to Kevin Scott" Wilton C0 last night. It sports Kevin's C-Collar, Swivel Locks, regular, and pipe jaws. It also received a new key way (with date stamp transferred) as the original was so badly worn.

Also picked up this nice Record No. 21 Quick Release yesterday for a song:

And recently this Reed 104R which the owner actually delivered to me...and only noticing after they had driven off that the slide has a braze repair. We got to talking and it didn't cross my mind to check it over closely (the images in the ad were really bad). Oh well, I paid too much, but it's a good repair at least.

My new Prentiss 263 hit the door today and it’s a beauty. It has 3” jaws and weighs in at 26 Lbs. The seller did a great job stripping the old paint and cleaning up the vise. The Meriden Prentiss vises were really well casted and the split base has the original handle.

Actually the Zyliss might be a good choice for a set of tools I'm considering for the Coleman trips, as we do a LOT of repairs to old lanterns and stoves.

I have a tiny lathe I'm starting to look for a small 12V motor for, I've already setup a little wood machinists box with a lot of specific useful, tools;

One guy even brought up a nickle plating setup and did on site plating on a < 1 gallon scale! He said hes done the plating with a AA battery before! initial materials are a bit pricey, but I may go for it... .

Bob, I quite like Athol vises, I have two that need refurbing, a combo vise and a 614-1/2. That one will serve you well - sitting on the bench/floor with all your other vises! (I speak from experience)

The 1C I got from Honza cleaned up nicely.
The factory paint is still mostly there, so all I did was soak in Evaporust to get rid of the surface rust, then rinse, dry, and rub on a thin coat of Boiled Linseed Oil. The oil makes the aged paint look much more presentable. I really like the Evaporust because it removes rust without touching the paint. You know what they say...It’s only original once.

(I cleaned the handles, nose, and jaw inserts with wire wheel and scotch brite...the dark metal color on the slide is the result of the Evaporust. I decided to just do a gentle wipe off instead of wire wheeling. The original machining marks are still visible. And nobody banged on the tail leaving the usual nicks.)

Guy needed some money to pay a light bill so I made him an offer. I new what Wilton bullets where but had no idea that it was worth that much.

Yea, a guy sold me an electric Milwaukee jack-hammer drill and 10 carbon tipped bits ranging from 1/2'' to 2'' in the carrying case, for $50.00.---I broke one of the larger bits and had to replace it, and it cost $85.00, and that was 37 years ago.---I still use it but I wear gloves, thick ones, so it don't blister my hands.---Sherrod, sounds like you might need a pair of White Mules too.
