What happened to Rust Bullet Concrete Clear?

Last Fall, I bought 6-gallons of Rust Bullet Concrete (Not the Duragrade) and 6-gallons of the Clear. I ran out of good weather and had to push my floor to this year.

I'm getting ready to do the work, but I'm a little concerned about coverage, so I thought I'd pick up an extra gallon of each. I was able to find the Concrete at Walmart, but I can't seem to find the Clear anywhere.

Is Rust Bullet Clear Shot the same product? Was it discontinued?

They still make it - to the best of my knowledge. We were not comfortable with 'changes' and moved on. Well actually maybe not. I just pulled up their site and they are only listing duragrade. I would call them US (800)245-1600 | Canada (800)789-3993

Well, I've confirmed with Rust Bullet that the Rust Bullet Concrete line has been discontinued. They are now only selling the Duragrade product.

They're looking to see if they have any old stock of the Clear left. Hopefully they do, because I can't find it anywhere. I need 1 more gallon to be comfortable enough with the Clear coverage.

I currently have 14 gallons of the stuff sitting in my garage. I'm glad I bought a little extra in case I run short.

I'm a little disappointed in this news. I wish that I'd known this last October. I might have made a different choice.

Wow - They want $180 for 1 gallon of the Rust Bullet Clear Coat. I paid $129 last Fall. Seems like I'm getting a little screwed over here. Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. This stuff doesn't seem to be available anywhere else.

Based on Garage Flooring's post (and similar posts in the past) and the fact that it's discontinued now, do you really want to put it down? Seems like they may have had some issues of some sort.

Overall, I've seen good reviews for the product. I think the discontinuation is probably due to the new version of the product that they released last year.

Plus I've spent a lot of money on the product already. I can't justify throwing away that kind of money.

I'm just a little torqued that I'm being gouged for a gallon of the stuff. Apparently the laws of supply and demand have kicked in.

If I knew about this before I bought it, I would have bought something else for sure.

If I had it I would use it for sure. I would prep first regardless of current instructions -- I have not read them

The floor is about 1.5 years old. There is no grease or oil. I've avoided taking anything that might stain the floor into the building until I finish the floor. I do have some spots with Great Stuff foam residue. I'm hoping that will come off easily.

My prep plan was to vacuum, power wash, do a rough sand with a buffer and pad (no grinding) to get off any surface goop, power wash, let it dry, vacuum, then apply the RB.

I would do a moisture test and I would email exactly what you just wrote to them and as (in an email) if that is sufficient.

I just had an e-mail conversation with Rust Bullet on this topic. According to them, Rust Bullet for Concrete is not going away and is just being added to the DuraGrade line. However, they have stopped producing the clear in Rust Bullet for Concrete and are promoting DuraGrade Concrete in clear instead.

FWIW I skimped really hard when I laid my rust bullet, probably could have used another gallon. It laid really well and I've had no issue with it - this was on a pretty rough 80-125 year old slab.

When I contacted them I asked specifically about the RB for Concrete Clear Coat. My understanding from the conversation was that they were not producing the RB for Concrete anymore. Maybe I misunderstood them. If so, then I apologize for spreading bad information. I didn't mean to do that.

I'm not sure how they can add it to the Duragrade line. Isn't it a completely different formula? So, now the Duragrade Clear is your top coat over the old formula?

I ordered the original specifically to avoid some of the issues I heard about with the Duragrade. That, and I didn't like the idea of using a fairly new product.

As I mentioned, I was able to buy the silver RB for Concrete at Walmart.

To be clear (yes, pun intended ), I used the verbiage that Rust Bullet used in their email to me. When they say they are adding it to the DuraGrade line, I took it to mean that it will still be available as a concrete coating and is not considered a DuraGrade product. If you scroll down to the bottom of their page for DuraGrade, you can see that it's still available (RB for concrete) for purchase in their list of Related Products.

I had decided to contact them because I had heard something similar from a reader of ours that had contacted us asking questions. I wanted to get the straight scoop, so after hearing from them I thought it wise to post here to help avoid confusion.
