Seems you did just fine for $55.00. Rebuild the jack and you have a forever tool.

Now for the rest of the story, as they say. Checked it out today, at about 10 tons of pressure started leaking down the outside (!) of the ram housing. Found a leak where the pressure pipe from the pump feeds into the ram. !/2 a day later, leak is fixed, works fine. Appears someone has had this apart before, likely to rebuild the ram assembly. I'll start a thread specifically for this with more pics.

This morning's flea market finds...

attachment.php

- The half-full oiler is from WWII. The "LUBE OIL M.G." stencil refers to the Browning .50 cal.

- The funky tool next to it is for shocks and struts, for my K-D (No. 465) collection.

- Below that is a Bonney stud puller.

- The tiny snap ring pliers are Waldes, a company with a very interesting history. I have a few Truarc-Waldes pliers.

- I can't read the marking on the specialty pliers. Something Something N.Y.

- Given the Prohibition era publication date (1922) and the subtitle ("and the Border Smugglers") of this entry in Claude A. LaBelle's famous "The Ranger Boys" series, I am guessing it's going to take place on the Canadian border and our intrepid boy scouts run into some casks of whiskey!

- And last but not in the least bit least, that rusty tiny DOE wrench - which the WWII jeepers will recognize - is worth about 7 x in flip value what I paid for everything altogether. Barcalo-Buffalo 723 (3/8 x 7/16). Haven't found one in a few years, so it was a nice surprise.

Ironically, Murphy's Law almost immediately kicked me in the teeth.

Quite literally as I was handing over my dollar for the Barc-Buff, the guy who runs the flea market (Rt 70 in Lakewood) walking around collecting $10 per table from vendors was talking to the guy I bought it from. I heard him saying something about scouting out a possible location in Jackson and I got this terrible sinking feeling. Upon questioning, I discovered that the flea market was closing! This is their final year. The owners of the property sold the lot. Condos, of course.

There goes my Wednesdays and my second stop on Fridays! :(

Nice find on the 723. It’s been a while since I’ve found one in the wild too. I have the K-D shock tool and it was incredibly useful for changing conventional shocks. Hopefully they’ll find a new location for your flea.

One sale today, within a mile or two so I had to go.Pictures were promising, lots of Snap On. Pricing was high, might try again tomorrow when they usually drop 50% or so. There was quite a bit of stuff from SK,Craftsman,Snap On,etc. With a bit of work I'd think several sets, lots of fill ins and fun could be had. Anyhow I grabbed a few things .Wrenches from Bonney,Proto,Craftsman Par-x,Williams & MAC.

Went to a small sale today where they were practically giving the tools away.....large Ridgid pipe wrenches were 50 cents....anything smaller was cheaper. The guy that was already at the sale when I walked up the driveway bought EVERYTHING.

Picked this up recently for $12. Stanley professional, and tbh didn't know they had a pro line. I could be wrong, but it looks like a rebranded SK. Only one socket isn't original. Decent find.

We drove to S Lake Tahoe today to run errands and spotted a garage sale sign. The seller recognized me from the flea market although I didn’t remember him. We poked through the tables of clutter and picked up a few items. The Ryobi recipro saw was only slightly more expensive than the free ones I found last week and works well with a charged battery. One Coke opener was US made and the other from West Germany. The Craftsman Clench wrench was one I hadn’t seen before. I had to pick up the Bridgeport crate tool and the tiny Snap-on vacuum grip dykes from 1952. The little Bonney wrench was unusual.

Not much to speak of at the flea market this morning.

attachment.php

It was a "'nother hole in the head" kind of day, because I need another Ford Model A 8-point DBE brake wrench and another pair of dykes like I need...

But, I don't have the ubiquitous Ford brake wrench in a Williams Superrench, and the side-cutters have a really cool grip pattern that I don't think I have seen before. It looks like woven rattan or wicker. I will snap a photo after clean-up. No markings on the pivot or inside the handles that I can see.

I had a breakfast meeting with some work colleagues this morning and spotted an estate sale near the restaurant, so I stopped by after. The ad pics were mostly household bric-a-brac, but mentioned lots of tools, handyman estate, etc. I sent the ad link to SWMBO, and she tele-shopped while I checked out the minimal tool offerings.

I asked the family if there were any other tools and was told yes, but they had already put out everything of value. After some persistence on my part, they let me look through the "tool room" on the back of the house. They were right--mostly throw away stuff back there.

SWMBO got back to me with her "this if under $x, that if less than $y" items. I bundled and bargained the following for a total of $29:

Fodder for SWMBO's yard art/garden projects:
Resin tortoise sprinkler--brass fittings and very detailed casting
Chicken cooker dish
Blue glass vase

Hand tools:
Millers Falls keyhole saw, not a "Buck Rogers" (no red color) but still cool--call it a "Space Man Spiff" saw
Long-C Craftsman 03963 Duralumin rafter square
Bridgeport Boy Scout hatchett w/ PO name engraved in the handle

After saying my farewells, I got back in the car, but paused before driving away. I had seen an unusual camp stove in the front yard. I only knew it as unusual due to our resident Coleman collector's (OutlawMWS) posts here. After some Ebay searching, I finally found two examples that made me get out of the car and walk back. A 30-second conversation got me both of these for another $15:

Coleman 443 aluminum 3-burner camp stove, brief '61 to '64-ish production run, very good condition
Coleman 501-960 cook kit, in original box, sold from McChord AFB sometime in the '60s, very good condition

Yeah, I left happy!

Hit 3 sales Friday. @ were wasted and on the 3rd, picked up a SK 40132, a Snap On SW 301, a Kennedy Box 1018 and the CMAN 1/2 in ratchet. It's marked "V", but no part number. I've never seen one with both a USA and Canadian Patent number on it.
Kennedy has some bottom rust, a slight bend in on of the drawer dividers, and some paint flaking but other wise ok. I'll clean it up some and see if I can trade or sell it.

BB as I'm sure you know, YOUSUCK on the Coleman stove and container! You'll make a good return on those!

I also picked up a 3 burner Coleman, but it's green, so the only reason I did so was it was only $3...

Wanna trade?

BTW the cook kit is also a box for the right single burner stove!

Here's a "one that got away".

My buddy (who knows better) tells me he found a wooden toolbox full of machinist's stuff for $100, but he passed because there wasn't any good Mitutoyo, only a bunch some off brand called Star-something or other.

All I can think of the next guy pouncing on a Gerstner full of Starrett...of course by the time he tells me the story there's about 0% chance of it being there if I made the drive.

Grabbed up a load of hand tools and a deuce of articulating florescent lamps for the workbench.
Handtools are the usual suspects; Bonney, Wright, SK, Husky, Armstrong, Plomb, Snap-On, etc.

A mix of odds and ends from the last couple weeks.

Stihl MS250 for $75.

P1070986.jpg

I see a ton of Coleman Lanterns but this one caught my eye. Condition was excellent and the price was right - $5. It has a self igniter. I assume this was a user add on?? The rest of the tools were $1/ea.

P1080019.jpg

P1080021.jpg

P1080020.jpg

Cleveland drill bit index was $5.

P1070996.jpg

Old oak handtruck, new jug of mineral spirits and a hickory handle for $26.25.

P1080022.jpg

Lot of 4 old wall clocks. Three of them cleaned up real well. The other is for parts. $45

P1080018.jpg

Sansui Amplifier from an estate sale $10

Not a single tool at the local flea market today. I think the threat of rain kept lots of sellers away.

Went to an estate sale. The leaf blower with charger and two batteries $30. Reciprocating saw $30. Air bubble $5. Battery charger $2. I don't know how much trouble it is going to be to replace the selector switch but other than that, everything works.

the Sansui for $10 was a usuck deal!

Thanks. The vent is perfect. The only paint chips/peeling is at the very bottom edge of the tank.

I was all over yesterday and today, for what was mostly a bunch of zeros. But two stops ended up being heroes!
Yesterday was books:

A dollar each except for the model engineering, which was five. I also picked up a Blue Point (1937) 5/16 combo and the crossfeed screw and wheel for an Atlas but put them away already.
Today:

Partial gauge block set, .0005 Micrometer, and a leather box. $3.50
He had some other great machinist tooling but knew what it was and it was too early to make a deal.

I was kind of excited today; a sale had a picture of what appeared to be a Power Bronze Craftsman tool box. I've never seen one, except the boxes made to fit individual power tools, so off I went. Sadly, it was the right color, but not Craftsman-and missing the lift-out tray.

But, I did pick up this nifty wire cutter. It's in pretty good condition, though definitely used. What caught my eye was the stampings. I don't know what HKP stands for, but I sure recognize US and 1944!

That parrot bill looks like maybe it's made for working on barbed wire fences? Staple puller plus wire cutter?

I'm sure someone more knowlegeable than me will chime in.

HKP is H.K. Porter, maker of bolt clippers. They're military barbed wire cutters.

Only two garage sales on Craigslist mentioned tools and neither of them had anything worthwhile. We saw another sale a couple of blocks from the second sale and the guy had a huge bag of sockets, 75% of which were US Craftsman. I started picking through the bag and he said take them all for $5.00 and offered to carry them to the Truckasaurus. Sold! The next sale had a Craftsman cantilever box in decent shape so I asked how much without the tools inside, which were mostly discards anyway, and he mentioned a ridiculously low price which I immediately accepted. I dropped by the Flea but most of the Tool vendors had taken the day off so I spent $2.00 on rusty treasures and left. I saw an interesting battery charger but left it behind. I’ll post a picture of it on the Wizard thread.

Went to a appointment type sale yesterday to get a Delta/Rockwell belt/disc sander. It wasn’t there, she forgot selling it. She was helping the widow clear out a shop, so a fair amount to dig through.

I’ll start with the vintage stool, the frame with HD casters and a nice aluminum material stand.

Here’s a overview

She gave me the aluminum carpenter style tool tote to put stuff in. Make a pile, you’ll be happy.
In the tote, CM mini tube cutters, Blue Pount tube cutter, couple packs of CM drill bits, Milton blow gun, US made thread gauges, a day old slurpee lid.

A Reed pipe wrench, Napa 3/4” breaker, Nape air hammer, IR angle grinder, couple ball peens, SO swivel impact sockets, 1/2” ext, stainless wire brush, SO brass hammer.

It’s stamped SO, got to be better brass right?

Shop made rollers, klicos and rivets, nice little wood handle chipping hammer, galv tie wire and spare caster wheels.

Now for my bonus find.........

Which prompted me to ask if they had one of these...

So now I’m a lot closer to getting into the casting scene.

One last item, this was sitting on the stool I bought, so had to get it.

Starrett surface block.

All of the above and a CM 26” machinist chest for $145.

Vintage Air A/C outlets and fittings, nice selection I will put to use on the van build. $12 for everything!

And these two items... Both Fowler, one digital, one dial and both 12" long.
These are stock photos that I pulled off MSC's site. The dial is the exact same caliper, the digital is close, but no cigar... I will get real pics tomorrow with the rest of the stuff...$20 bucks for both... On MSC's site these go for "around" $250 ea.

Don,
That Craftsman cantilever box is in incredible condition! Nice find and way to make something out of what was looking like a bust of a day!
