Carpenter's pencils

I just came across this video on YouTube. It may have been posted here before, but its kind of neat and worth seeing again. This video has given me a new appreciation for the lowly carpenter's pencil.

Pretty neat, I use the round ones from CH Hanson cause they come with a drill mounted sharpener

depends on what I'm doing, I usually like a hard round pencil. we use 2h for trim and when doing underlay we use carpenter pencils .

I have to admit I learned something.
I checked out a few more of the See Jane Drill.
Seen some value in them so I forwarded them to my 2 daughters. Thought the information could help them do some of their own repairs on their homes.

I have been using these lately. they are great, no more hassles with sharpening and the rubbish it makes. The lead is pretty strong and holds up well. When it gets dull just touch it up on some sandpaper and after it's too short flip it around for a fresh point. Once the cartridge is used up replace it with a new one. Whats really good is that the length always stays the same...no more short pieces that get tossed out.

I thought those were a brilliant idea, but I only got a few uses out of mine before the end cap popped off and vanished, rendering it useless.

I did an apprenticeship in carpentry, those tips weren't passed on. 50 years later ,I learn something new. I like the scribing trick. I do laugh at them selling carpenters' pencil sharpeners.

That's a hell of a gap in deck boards...

I find that a quick hit on the top roller of the belt sander puts a nice hollow grind on the pencil.

Hmm. Not sure about there only being one way to sharpen a regular pencil, I can think of four or five...!

However, I’m a carpenters pencil lover. Not always for carpentry, but very useful for all the other stuff you get involved with!

I’ve not long had this Pica thing (the green thing in the pic - the normal pencil is just for size). It’s basically an oversize clutch pencil taking a ‘carpenters’ lead, with a sort of plastic holster.

Havn’t used it in anger yet, but most of the Pica stuff seems to be really well thought out and seems to be the way to go.

previous post reminded me of this, speaking of pencils, used to be when you went to a trade show you walked out with all kinds of stuff. pencils, pens, note pads , you name it.
Noticed in the last 5 years it's getting tighter. budgets are getting tighter so the swag isn't as easily obtainable

Nice collection of pencils. I just have some natural wood Craftsman pencils and some orange Home Depot pencils. Hard to tell in the picture, but the red Johnson pencils look round. Is this the case or an optical illusion?

I bought a handful that might be a similar shape. They are ellipse or oval no markings on the ones I bought have no idea if the profile has any significant uses.
