I'm looking at picking up the 18v heat gun for an upcoming wiring project. I have quite a few m12 tools (and Dewalt 20v) but no 18v yet. I've been eyeing up upgrading my sawzall and angle grinder. Any good deals on bundles or batteries? I'll need a charger too.

Buy the $300 battery kit at HD, get a "free" fuel grinder. Return the the battery kit, as its still overpriced at discount.

Don't pay more than $60 for a 5ah, and no more than $100 on a 9ah. Ideally you should be getting a battery for $10 per ah, with a premium for HO batteries. Regular chargers should be $10-15, rapid $35.

Obviously not who you asked but...eBay (make sure it's legit kit-splitters), craigslist/letgo/offer up or I've even found some at pawn shops. Buying new, if they're listed as used or dirty, pass.

I agree with his pricing 100%. If you can't find them right now, give it like 2-4 weeks.

I have been so focused on the stupid m12 starter set that I actually wanted I totally forgot to do this. I really have been wanting the fuel grinder. I am really dumb sometimes.

Anybody know what the 5.0ah/2.0ah starter set is returning for?

it depends on what you buy with it. The more the other item is, the less the starter kit will be valued

$199 x ($199 / ($199 + tool)) = starter cost
$tool x ($199 / ($199 + tool)) = tool

I can also tell you it isn't a price I would ever pay for a 5ah & 2ah battery.

Vac for $66. Heck I know where I am going tomorrow morning. I hope it’s still there. They only had one of them left Sunday.

So that's $299 for the kit, $187 for the battery kit, $122 for the grinder? Doesn't that place the battery kit only $10 more than your suggestion since I need a charger? Still not worth it?

They way I do it is break everything down and see what I can get it new on EBay for. Then determine if it’s a good deal. Right now in my opinion the only starter set that’s a pretty good deal is the m12 ones. But everyone feels differently.

Just for anybody looking for the m12 starter kit with the stapler and they were out of stock. I looked last night and it showed available to order and ship to the store. So I purchased one. We will see if it ships.

It probably will, but the bad part ordering online is you can't return the starter kit.

Actually I thought about it after posting & contemplating buying another, and the pricing isnt that bad. And if you need a charger, plus a bag that can hold up pretty well, it probably is worth it.

My hesitation is that it both of those batteries are technically old technology, and I have several of them already (might be down to one 9ah finally). I'd prefer a 8ah HO & 3.0ah HO over the 9 & 5.

does anyone know the max return value for the others items on the home depot m12 deal right now with the two batteries. I ended up getting the stapler for 50 and was thinking about going for the air pump and maybe the job light.

Thanks.
Levi

The light is definitely worthwhile. Milwaukee rep didn't seem to like the 12v stapler.

Then the rep hasnt used it to put in 1000+ staples in an afternoon and not minded doing any of it then. I'm more frugal/dutch/*** than anyone I know, but I didn't go I wish I saved $30 and did that manually ($50 M12 vs $20 DeWalt carbon).

I love the 3/8" ratchet, but that day with the stapler was more a convienence than the ratchet really ever had been for me. My uses are are more homeowner, farm, and try to fix my own truck, but the stapler is well worth $50.

I think the rep was pushing me towards the 18v tools instead. The 12v stapler seems to have very good reviews. I don't (yet) have the stapler, inflator, or ratchet. Don't even use my air ratchet. Might pick up the 12v stapler just to have around.

That’s true. But I needed a few more batteries anyways. I am not saying it’s the greatest deal but I am okay with it. All the reviews liked the stapler. We will see.

I’ve been thrilled with the m12 stapler

It's like the rivet gun. It's not worth it for an occasional rivet. But if you find yourself needing to put in a couple hundred rivets then shut up and take my money. Things like that will beat your body up when you need to do a lot of it.

I just picked the M12 stapler up 2 weeks ago. At $50 couldn't pass it up. Haven't used it yet but mostly got it for some Tear Away bead. My wrist will thank me.

Maybe not worth it just a few staples but put in 1000+ staples a day like 2many mentioned. The manual staples are easier to pull these days but anything more than 1 load strip im pulling this battery one out.

Had a bad scare 2 months ago was pretty much useless for 2 weeks with right hand. With all the tool options these days better to spend a little every once in awhile not to beat up our bodies so much. Guys in trades are barely able to work in the 60s lately just from the abuse. I'm 35 and already feeling it.

I have been eyeballing the m12 fuel impact/drill set with free tool. Figure if I choose the 6.0 ah battery I could get the set for $132 ish. That is if it works out that way.

Has anybody had them tell them no for returning the starter kits?

I bought mine when it came out for $99 but I put 10,000 staples through it and I’m glad I have it now even just for the occasional use.

Buy it with the ratchet if you don't need/want the 6ah for $66 &/or want the Fuel Kit for the cheapest possible. It also never hurts to ask for 10% an item, but try to have them do it before they scan the 'free' item, sometimes it changes their mind. If you have military discount or they a partial to firefighters (I know many retail do), again ask for 10% off just one item.

They were out of all the starter kit promo packs the night I stopped in, and was the pro-desk cashier they verified this. I ended up finding the m12 surge kit, and brought it up and asked about 10% off, and she took 15%, :bounce:.
In retrospect, i wished I grabbed the Fuel Impact/drill kit & ratchet, as she would have taken 15% off that, making it $99.29 , plus 11% rebate in my area :shocking:

I appreciate the advise on the fuel kit with the ratchet. I forgot that was the most expensive free item. I know a buddy that shops HD a lot of his business and has pretty good luck with them bringing down the 10%. I do know that many places give a small discount to firefighters/law enforcement/etc however I never ask for it. If they see my shirt/badge and offer that’s one thing but I don’t ask. That’s just me. Not knocking people who do I just don’t feel right. I appreciate the strategy though. :bowdown:I should have done this all last week and got the extra 11%, really didn’t think it through. :(. Come to think of it I did get a 10% coupon in the mail for my HD card. I could go that route too.

When you guys refer to the starter kit + free item you mean the Fuel M12 drill + impact kit for $199 + free item? So you get the ratchet, then return the ratchet and basically get the drill + impact for $199 - the price of ratchet?

Just returned a M12 light out of a kit and kept the 6Ah battery.

When I purchased the local HD gave me a 6Ah and a M18/M12 charger for the $149...lol

When I bought it I thought the light would be much better, hence the return.

I was talking about a separate set that was giving away a free battery. The starter sets are the battery/charger sets with free tool.

Just a FYI, you did not buy a kit, just a promotional 'free' battery. A kit is the tool (maybe more than 1), 1 or 2 batteries, and a charger in one box (model ending in -21 or -22 indicating battery count). You bought a bare tool (model ending in -20) and battery. Milwaukee has now begun doing "starter kits" which are batteries, bag & charger, and then selling more bare tools.

The way you posted it, it sounds like it came in one box, and you returned the battery. Not trying to knock you down or anything, just want to clarify what we are all talking about.

Next month (after the current promo) there will be multiple M12 tools that you can pick up with a 'free' 2.0 battery, and several M18 bare tools & kits that come with a 'free' 5ah battery.

Anybody have any input of the Milwaukee M18 cordless sander promo.. Is the sander any good..???
I got lots of 9, 5 ah batteries.

I love my sander. Bought it to sand a mahogany deck this last month ,and I put it through the paces. I wouldn't use it with a 9ah as it will probably feel a little off balanced, but I was using 2, 3 HO, and 5's and it just kept going. Granted I haven't used another sander in years to compare, I still wouldn't trade the convenience of only having the vacuum hose attached, which was a must. I picked my sander up for ~$80 and while it will sit for a long time (sort of hopefully) I'm glad I have it.

I see the surge impact is on sale with the starter kit. There aren't usually many deals on the surge impact. Seems like this is a good time to buy one, no?

Last deal I saw was the Surge, drywall gun, 2x2.0s for $199 on a special buy of the day a couple weeks ago, and wasn't available long at all.

After the current promos are over (8/3), the next one includes buying the M12 surge kit @ $199, get a 'free' 2.0 battery, $59 value. Depending on what you are looking for. In testing though, the m12 does not appear to have the same power as the M18.
