I didn't use epoxy, porcelain, racedeck, polyurea or anything else that costs a small fortune. Those floors do look real nice and I'm not knocking them at all but does anyone here have a primed & painted garage floor? I'm curious as I have not seen one here since I've been a member.

Mine isn't fancy and now that it's about 6 years old it has some wear on it but for the few hundred bucks it cost me I wouldn't trade it for anything.

In my,last house I used garage floor paint.
It was cheap and easy but better than that it made it easier to sweep up and was easy to touch up if I scratched it

Not in a garage, but I put down $20 per gallon Behr concrete floor paint in the basement utility room at my last house. It looked great and I never had any wear or scuffing.

I've got paint in the basement garage. Easy to put down, easy to touch up. I went mid grade single part "epoxy", but have used the Sherwin Williams concrete paints before for quick touch up in a factory. Given the oils and forklift traffic 6+ months before they show wear meets my expectations for something that can be put down in an afternoon with minimal prep.

Years ago used to be part of a crew that would paint a boat factory. Friday afternoon production would move everything to one side, we'd roll through Saturday for cleaning and paint, then they would put everything back on Monday. Repeat the next weekend for the other side. Given how much stuff (glues, resins paint etc) got dropped it was the best option. The woodshop always looked the best, as there really wasn't any dropped material and nothing beyond cart traffic, layup shop was always terrible with drips but the paint held fine. We left the weld/heavy mechanical area bare.

What product did you use? Did you etch the floor b4 painting?

I just checked on the partial can I have in the basement. It's Behr porch & patio paint, gloss enamel. I spent more money on gallon cans because I wanted blue. I could've bought 5 gallon cans of Slate Grey but I saved that for the walls.

I also used Behr bonding & primer before the paint.

I did use the acid etch before the primer and after degreasing and washing out the floor real good. I made the mistake of pouring out the acid onto a wet floor and a large cloud of gas made it very hard to breathe. Glad I had a door open:).

How is the tire pickup? I thought this was the major drawback on using concrete paint?

I don't think you are the only one, but I do think there are far more people who have had paints fail. I clearly have my own bias but I think you would be far better off using a good basic epoxy such as https://www.garageflooringllc.com/simple-no-odor-garage-floor-epoxy/ that will serve as a primer if you decide to do a full floor later on.

Price-wise its pretty close.

Don't ask.
:headscrat 6 years and the roller and pan are still out, how much has it been used? :lol_hitti
I've seen quite a few basement floors that were painted. Every one I've seen was worn off especially at the base of the stairs. I had a house with painted concrete steps. I repainted them soon after buying the house, it didn't last long. IMO worn paint looks as bad or worse than plain concrete.

We have 3 very large walk in coolers and garage bay at work we paint over every few years with a basic gray concrete paint. For the most part it holds up good a lot of rough foot traffic, 2 wheel carts, and pallets crates and wood boxes being dragged around.

We give it all a good power washing first

Eventually I am going to do my own home garage/basement the same way a dozen years of stains its beginning to look a bit shabby.

Worst looking stuff we got IMO is in the new the barn store. My boss was talked into putting down a clear concrete sealer, its a crappy dark and mottled look.

I painted my garage floor. I acid etched, pressure washed, cleaned real good.

It's just ok. I wish I went with epoxy or something better. I used Sherwin Williams concrete paint or garage paint (don't remember now it's been a decade or more).

There is some hot tire pickups but that was primarily from my mustang. Our current cars don't pull it up. The tires are much different and not street radials or slicks so that is the issue I had.

There's also duct tape pickups where I taped down a humidifier drain hose.

Other than those blotches it's held up decent and I have never touched it up or anything.

After painting it in 2013 I let a friend park a truck on it since I didn't live here yet. He parked it for the winter only a month or two after I painted it. The next spring when he backed it out it pulled up a little paint under the front two tires. I blame myself for parking on it before it was ready. It's had many vehicles on it since, including for weeks at a time and a few winters now and no paint at all has pulled up.

I repainted the tiny bit that did pull up and it looks fine.

Trust me when I tell you, I am perfectly happy with my painted floor in every way. I do not want anything else. The benefits are easy cleanup of oil, trans fluid, antifreeze, and a few other liquids and the greatest benefit is in this hot & humid weather because the humidity doesn't come up through the floor any longer.

I think I used 6 gallons of paint and one or two gallons of primer. A few bottles of acid didn't cost much either. Mine is a working garage and I don't worry much about making it look pretty. It's functional and that's fine for me.

When we bought this house the two car garage had a painted floor. It was in good shape except for two small hot tire pull ups. During the remodel I added a single garage with a shop space. I painted that floor with Rustoleum floor paint. It held up well except for some small scars from motorcycle center stands. Both were easy to keep clean & repair.

Unfortunately the concrete sub the contractor used wasn't all that good. After a very few years the shop floor cracked bad enough to be ugly. Alternatives were: Remove & replace, Repair & repaint, Cover it up! Less money & work to cover it up, so I chose that route. I got the ugly covered, added some design, & have a floor that's easy to repair & gets lots of compliments.

If I were to do it again with good concrete I'd probably just paint. It solves the staining & cleaning problems, is inexpensive, & easy to repair.

Am I missing something here? The Behr is $30/gallon and yours is $90. How is 3 times the price "pretty close"?

I was not comparing our product to a specific product but to the total cost stated by the OP in the original. We could do a single coat, 500 Sq Ft floor for $180 and a two-coat (preferred) for $360.00

There is also some very good information about the BEHR product in their install guide and TDS

I am getting ready to rent one of the one car garages at our condos. The elderly lady who owns it has never had anything in it. I will be using it for a man cave only, as there will be no room for a vehicle. So only light foot traffic from me. I'm on SS Income so I cannot afford epoxy so I'm looking at regular garage floor paint. Any specific brands that you guys can recommend?
Thanks
