Any Authorized Lennox guys here ?

Any of you guys have access to Lennox's parts system ? The AC at my shop decided to stop blowing cold today. I climbed up on the roof and the unit is running but I don't think the compressor is. Last time this happened about 5 years ago it was the capacitor but I had a friend get it for me and replaced it so I have no record of what it was. The "owners" manual shows the wiring diagram but not the size of the "dual" capacitor.

Anyway, I don't mind getting one first thing in the AM before I climb 30 ft up the side of the building with my meter and tools. If it is something else I will have a spare.

So if anyone can tell me what the value is of the cap or a Lennox part number, I can swing by the supply house and pick one up. The unit is Model number 10ACB60-11

you can get a good cap tester at HF. Test them before you replace and test before you install.

Do yourself a favor and use a 60/7.5 440 cap. The higher voltage rating won't affect the capacitance, but the thicker/higher rated insulation will pay dividends down the road. Especially with the rash of Chinese capacitors. They're so cheap you NEED that extra insulation of the 440v!

X2. Haven't bought a 370V run cap in over a decade.

Turned out not to be the cap anyway. Needed some R22. My HVAC guy said it is not unusual to need some after 20 years. Back to normal cooling

I used to tear open the box and insert the proper run cap when I bought condenser fan motors. It was just easier to do it at the warehouse counter, then I knew if I took the box up on the roof the correct cap would be in there. Started running into alot of caps bad right out of the box or within 30 days - found out it was a bad run. Went to 440v caps exclusively - even for cond motors. Problems ceased. Always got weird looks from the counter guys when I asked for 4/440 and 5/440 caps!

No, it is unusual. Refrigerenat does not "wear out" or "get used up". You have a leak.

No, it is unusual. Refrigerenat does not "wear out" or "get used up". You have a leak.

I am not stupid, I know that Refrigerant does not get "used up"

The question is what is leaking and is it worth worrying about if it took 20 years to lose a pound and a half ? Like he told me it might be one of the charge valves or a fitting but he did not think it was anything major. I will monitor it and see what happens. If it goes down quickly then I will fix it. If it takes another 20 years well . . . . I will be 89 years old and most likely will not care

You will not know how bad the leak is until it needs charged again, keep in mind you do not know when it started to leak 20 years or 20 days ago.

Exactly. If your tech thinks it might be one of the "charge valves", why didn't he take the extra 10 minutes to at least soap bubble check them and replace the cores if they were leaking? Sounds like a "dump and go" to me.

Because we were up on the roof which is a major pain in the arz and did not have any leak test with us. Bad enough pulling the freon up the side of the building with a rope. I told him not to worry about it and we will see what happens. He is right next door to me in the building and is very good at what he does. Definitely not a "dump and go" If it goes back down we will fix it, simple.

I didn't mean to sound insulting. I made the assumption you were talking about a residential system. 99% of my service work is on the roof.

For future reference, get a permanent marker and write down the date on the unit when it was charged. And how many lbs, if possible.
My brain is not as sharp as before, so I write everything down. LOL.
