ideas or plans for oxy act trolley

g'day to all i'm looking to build a cart for my oxy and actylene set- I have the big bottles- the heavy ones and the $20 hand trolley i use is bending the axels an wheels under the strain. could you please post up your photo's or plans would be great. cheers

There are a thousand ways to do this but if I was in small garage I might be tempted to chain them against the wall and put 50 ft of hose on.

Well if your trolley is holding up well and the issue is only with the axle I would upgrade the axle and tires. Try mounting some pillow block bearings to the trolley and then use a smooth solid steel rod with some heavy duty tires.

I'm not to sure what you mean by pillow block bearings? the frame on the trolley im using nearly folded up today- i think it's soldered together. I use the bottles out in the yard to cut up steel and trucks so i can't just leave them on the wall. I was wondering if anyone had plans to build a cart- i bought two heavy duty steel rimmed wheels the other day, I'm really keen on building my own but am drawing a mental blank for ideas. cheers

I bought a $15 dolly from Lowes (was made in USA), added a larger base for the bottles, a couple hooks for the hoses and a lower hook for my bag o parts. Cost about $20 total and works just fine

If you can find one the big dolly's that movers use is plenty strong and they come with a built in strap to keep the tanks from falling off.

Get a bigger axle with larger tires. This will eliminate the axle bending and make the kart easier to move.

okay plan is done on paper- hope to get it done tomorrow, thanks for everyone who put up plans, pic's and links i think i've grouped the best bits for the plan. I going to use some scrap 2x2 box steel and weld up a simple widend cart frame with a steel plate base and curved flat steel for the bottles to sit in and a strap setup with a box on the back for bits and tips, the wheels i got are two heavy duty steel rimmed wheels. should work okay. cheers will post pics when done.

I have a POS cart and did this for a while. It worked really well, unless I needed to cut something way out in the yard. For my money having a wall mounted set and then a portatorch set is the easiest way to go. I did start using quick connects so I could change to a rosebud or different torch with having to turn off the tanks.

When I got my big tanks I threw them on an upright hand-truck "temporarily". 10 years later....still there! Sure works though!

I used a aluminum two wheeler I got from work. Fabbed up a mounting bracket. Same set up for 15 years.

My grandfather used an old wheel chair for his and it works great - particularly on the farm where you might need to wheel it out in front of the shop on rough ground.

we live on a farm and are usally usally tanks at least once every 2 weeeks so we took some old tractor tires and use those for our modified dolly
