Replacement for Drill Press Table Shoe?

Hey guys. I have a Craftsman 103.0303 drill press that is missing the shoe for the table.

Here is an example of what I am missing, the little piece here


Short of spending $45 for a shoe, do any of you have any other suggestions on what would be a good replacement? I don't see myself really needing to drill at angle....so maybe just a longer bolt? Don't really want to mar the shaft though.

Right now the table is just held in place with the angled lock key. It kinda shimmies a little bit. I'd really just like to be able to lock it firmly in place.

Maybe a bolt with a rubber boot? Are those a thing?

Or shoot, do any of you have one you'd sell me??

Plenty of people parting out drill presses on Ebay and that part is seldom in demand. Contact a couple of people selling parts and ask them.

I can do this. What I would do is turn a complete ring with an Od of 2.480, an ID of 2.050" and cut the inside edges at a 45* angle to match the angle of the sides of your groove. What I'm missing is the face width of the top of the groove. You show the bottom, but not the top. Also can you confirm that both angles are ~45* as they look different in the one picture.

I'm making the assumption that this piece will only contact on the angled faces and not the bottom of the groove. If that is not your idea then the ID&OD may have to be adjusted. I see this as fitting like a V-belt in a pulley.

Once it is made I'd send you the whole ring and you can cut a segment out of it and then pass on segments to others who may need one.

Yeah it’s 45 degrees on both sides, but it’s also got a slight radius. Striaght chamfer should be fine if that’s also easiest.

The face width at the top of the groove looks to be .7” on the nose.

A v-groove type of brake would probably work better than what I was thinking. I was thinking something that sat only at the bottom of the channel, but something that sits on the sides of the channel would distribute pressure better and have less of a chance of marring the surface.

I think what I’ll do is cut a piece out of the ring, then drill a small recess for the bolt to sit in and capture it in place.

I’ll store in the tool box in case anyone ever messages me looking for a piece.

Edit: got it installed and with the new bolt that table ain’t got any wiggles in it now!
