I didn't see any PEX down before the concrete:dunno: did I miss something?
I bet you're going to wish you made the lean too 3X bigger. Just from experience.

So my builder and his HVAC guy think that I won't be happy with a Mini-Split system. Mostly because Michigan is cold for 4-5 months out of the year and the mini splits can cool great but won't heat as well. They suggested a giant Garage heater, installed with gas run from the house for $2500. Then I can buy two window AC units for use in the summer. Still not sure...

But we've got Holes and Lumber!

I can cool my 30x40 with one 24k btu window unit. Ceiling height is 13-15.5 ft high , spray foam insulation , I'm in NJ

No Pex. Decided to put my money elsewhere and not do the heated floor. If I had a choice I would have made the entire shop bigger and a larger Lean too. Unfortunately due to the Wetlands around me, any bigger and I would have had to dump considerable money to "fix" the flood plain area. If you add too much fill dirt you have to do some compensation cuts, Would have been $10k+ in fixing just to add more size to the barn. I have a 3 car attached to the house so it wasn't worth the extra expense.

Currently I only have the 62 Ragtop but I still need a 64 Notchback and a splitty Bus in the stable so one day...

The cooling I don't think would be an issue. Its the heating part that concerns me. It often dips into the negative. I am still up in the air on Radiant Gas heater VS Furnace VS Electrical/blower. :headscrat

Found this sweet Walker Roll-A-Car 740 on Facebook Marketplace for $20. Couldn't say no

Today we got the office in the loft studded out along with a half wall/rail and a staircase rail. Also got all the outlets wired up. Tomorrow we attempt to get some lights hung.
My wife worked on the Outside kennel area. Our german wirehair pointer is an escape artist so we thought sinking some stone would give us a little piece of mind. Included a pic of the little ****....err good boy.

Well this is how much light I have at night. Not too bad for 4 8ft bulbs. I think I will install 6 sets of these and hold on to the rest for possible future use. I guess I could sell what I am not using and recoup the cost for them :headscrat

What a great build. I am looking at building a something close to this. Did you go with a kit or company or sub contract out everything? If you don't mind me asking what is the ballpark figure you have in it so far? I am thinking about doing shingles and siding as well instead of metal on the outside.

Thanks! I went with a local small construction company. 2 man outfit and they contract out the fill/lot prep work, cement, and electrical and they use trusted local crews. So far I think we are somewhere in the $45k area. When all is said and done after HVAC, interior finishes(all insulation and paneling/ceiling) and the 4 post lift, we will be around $60k.

It don't take long to get money invested in a nice shop.
On your dog run, maybe find some plastic coated wire about 2ft high and lay it underground of the dog run so he can't dig around the perimeter.

Did you say split bus? These are my babies. 1963 15 window, and a 1966 21 window deluxe with sunroof. MMMMMMGOOD:thumbup:

Ugh for real. I feel like I am building my house again with money flying in every direction. I only plan on doing this once so in the grand scheme of things, $15K over the original "budget" is not a huge deal.

My German Shorthair does not dig at all but the Wirehair has a knack for figure out how to escape. We have a nest cam on the inside of the shop as well as the outside so if he starts trying to get out I can yell out him from my office .

Nice Rides! As much as I love the splits, I can't justify the price tag these days. Absolutely insane what rusty Type2's go for on TheSamba. I would much rather go through the import process and get one from Brazil for 1/3 the price. Not ideal but for a Bus but If I am going to dump huge amounts of cash into another VW its going to be a Type34 Ghia or a Notch.

Picked up some 6" recessed lights from Home Depot on my way home.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commerc...ng-Housings-and-Trims-6-Pack-CER105/202025123

$65 for 6 off them with the trim piece is awesome. Threw 4 up to see how she looked and I am very happy. Also brought out some tunes because well...tunes.

I drove inside for the first time. The Yukon XL is a boat and I was happy to see it fit well with plenty of space left.

awesome, i am actually adding a 40x54 onto my mechanic shop and i am thinking the same thing. I got some old pioneers about the same size, havent used them for years but remember them shaking knick nacks off the wall.

I like loud tunes when I have a grueling 4-5 hour session in the garage. Total Investment in shop Stereo...about $25. :rocker:

Well we are about 90% finished with the build. Still need doors but Loft is done, all electrical run and tied in to the house. Should have the inspection done today and then I can get cracking! WooHoo!

Here you go man! Loft pics.

Looks amazing! What are the heights of you loft? Under the loft clearance and the actual loft itself?

I like the loft , is that extra sleeping area or what?
I don't have a Notch, but its a type 3 Wagen I just received from Puerto Rico. Check out my site for the story on that one. I also have a Ghia that I just got a couple months ago, thinking about using the motor out of it for one of the buses.

Oh man that looks clean! The walled off area of the loft is sort of an office area for my side hustle. I son and I have an extensive video game collection and to afford it I buy, sell and repair games and consoles. It was starting to take over the house so this space made sense.

Well we have some Insulation completed. Roughly 75% of the wall insulation(R19) is in. Waiting on HVAC install hopefully next week before I complete the final 2 sections of wall. In the meantime we have started putting up the interior Purlins which will allow us to mount the 4'x8' 1/2" OSB sheets.

Can I just say, spray expanding foam is just about the nastiest **** I have ever laid hands on. Near impossible to get off.

Yes that spray foam is the worst. Once that A or B material gets on your skin, its there until you shed your skin. Acetone helps to remove it but then your skin gets all the oils sucked out of it. I bet the juice will be worth the squeeze on the insulation. Ought to be able to heat with a candle.

Dog Kennel is done and Furnace install is just waiting for final inspection. We have an issue with the A/C location but we’re going to wait until Spring to tackle that.

Update.

Walls are getting OSB now and the loft office is completely closed in! Furnace CRANKS out the heat as it starts to get a bit chilly here in the morning. Gunner is not happy with all our shenanigans :D

Ceiling and all insulation are complete! Thank god because damn we’re sore. 800 overhead screws to get it all in. All upper lighting done, fans installed, 220 line for the 4 post lift is all run and ready. The upper loft office is for the most part done. Needs to be trimmed out and the barn door slider put on. My wife has been painting anything that is paneled with OSB. We were going to primer and paint but what you see is just two coats of Zinsser Cover Stain. We’re happy with just that. More to come.

JMO, but the more light the better. My 24x32 had (8) 8' double florescents, now (7) since I had to remove one to install my lift. I'm looking to add more very soon.

I agree. Was just in there all day cursing at my Yukon’s rusted up hub/wheel bearing and was quite happy with the light.

Slow Progress...but it is progress :D Finally got all the OSB up on the walls and slapped on more paint. My father in law tackled the office exterior wall and used some left over flooring to cover it. Turned out pretty nice I think.
