Early flea trip this morning with some eclectic finds.

First stop was all German. Knipex 1000 volt lineman's pliers, two Wiha drivers and a DGD (Deutsche Gardner-Denver GMBH) 3/8 impact with four speeds.

Second stop - a couple of 1970's spark plug catalogues.

Third stop I'll probably regret not buying. At one of the higher priced vendors I spotted an older hip box with a leather handle. I start digging through it and he says he wants to look through it first. Fine, I walk away. Apparently Brazil Tools was an early offshoot of SK. The box was in really good shape. I only snapped a pic of the logo before he shooed me away. I can't find any pics online of the outside of the box.

Last stop I scored an almost complete Quickway 3/8 drive Socket Set "A" from Bethlehem Spark Plug Co. Missing one socket and the slider for the T handle, but most of the pieces still had the copper coating. Online info says early 1920's. Three bucks.

Hit a yard sale on the way home and picked up a Vaughn BP, steel wedge, Cman no.2 tappet that fills the hole in my set, a long C DBE, and a 15" Irwin US of A perfect handle driver. $5 for all.

Thanks Lugz, that link was quite the rabbit hole. Yall are an amazing wealth of knowledge. Most of my sockets don't look like they've been used except the largest one. I'd never heard of BSP but I loved the artwork on the box and new I couldn't go wrong for three bucks. You guys are going to turn me into a collector yet, damn it.

Lots of stops, but overall a pretty slow day!

I even forgot to stop at a small once a month flea market, I was so crazed with mapping stops... (Mapping today was a PITA,)

First items were from a block sale free pile, the book ends, (I need a couple at work, and we keep needing one here and there here at home) and the same Block for the Mil spec oil can (WWII I think? - It will get neatsfoot oil for my camping setup...) The other one is Rifle bore cleaner (nearly empty) from "Renuzit Home Products" - Ord-2508 (53) so Korea? (Lugz?) I got them down to $8 for both cans

ps: I would swear the "bore cleaner" smells more like neatsfoot oil!

A $5 hitch - needed for the van project.

$2 for the Giants towel, bat, maracas, and plastic box

And the tools: Mac Extractor set, 6" Wire wheel made in Germany, SO and Porto LA (Pebble) wrenches, a 2.5mm SO ball Allen driver and two small 2 inch "Kant-Twist" clamps. so I' up to four of this type - these and two 6"

Not bad, but all in all, pretty quiet.

Got a message back, so may be going back out for a vise and the small Flea...

Picked up today at the only sale that ended up having any quality tools. Found at the family run estate/wife moving sale of a guy that worked in a local plant, thus the industrial brand. Love those working man neighborhoods.

Williams SAE combo wrench set, missing one wrench which should be an easy find. Sale had two of these sets with each looking like they were missing the same wrench . Looks to be unused.

This weekend was good to me. I brought home a handful of vintage tools and another Coleman lantern (why can't I leave them behind!). I'll post some pics of those later.
The icing on the cake was this old Blackhawk box! Solid and straight, but it needs a deep cleaning.

UAIU - What? No pic love for the lantern? What model was it? (I have no problem leaving most 220's behind, other than a early one, or one with an amber globe or other rare accessory for cheap...)

Going back out was well worth it!

I got the Vise ($20):

Made (and designed) in Taiwan, (but with a US patent...)

But the Mini Flea and almost completely rolled up the carpets -(two guys were still loading up....), so a bust, BUT a found an "indoor Flea" at a church that is apparently a regular sat. thing!

Here is what I scored there (I may go back for an oversize aluminum pot)

18 inch Lug wrench Tee (No name I could find, but seems good quality - wanted for the Project van) a coupl eof straps and a bungee, and a 8 oz. BP hammer - $4.50

And as I was leaving one of the ladies mentioned another box full of tools, and I got these:

A Wolfcraft Doweling jisg - turns out to be more than complete! (had som dowel "pattern punches" as well!) and a supply of dowels. A featherboard fixture for T saws, some solder, and a ""Grade measuring" telescope "protractor" - This thing is cool - it has a scope inside the tube, a mirror on one half that allows the user to see the protractor AND the object being sighted on, with a cross bar to align them. SO: setup a sighting pol (those things surveyors use for sighting on, ) and set for the height of the user's eye, Sight in it at the bottom/top of the grade, adjust the level until you can sight the bubble (smallest bubble I've ever seen in a level's sight glass) and read the protractor directly in Grade!

$6.25 all told!

I think it’s for an old game (throwing horseshoes...). I recently got rid of a couple of them after restoring it (that was the fun part). The guy who bought it told me they are worth 80-100$. For the first time somebody kept arguing with me to pay me more than what I asked for (I just wanted to find them a good home since I do not play the game...). The guy insisted on paying me 20 despite me asking much less...

Those horseshoes are pretty strange. I have one I picked up up hunting that while it not long like those is HUGE compared to any other Horseshoe I've seen. this was lumbering country, so I suspect it was off a BIG mule...

First sale: spent $50 for a Sears block plane; Craftsman puller, ratchet & calipers; Indestro ratchet; Herbrand ratchet; Plomb and a couple of other extensions, Utica side cutters; Proto swivel socket, bushing remover set; and two binders of baseball and military cards plus a box of football cards. Also three 1921 Morgan dollars for another $60.

Second sale was an estate sale with tools. I bought half of them, a Plumb hammer and a 1/2 inch Task Force socket set for $5. Left the nameless screwdriver and bit set for someone else.

Speaker from a local antique store for $9.

Final find was 35 packs of NOS Trojan brand coping saw blades with 5 blades per pack and two 1/2" Ace Hardware plug cutters. Best part was texting my 21 year old son that I got him 35 packs of Trojans from eBay. Easily worth the $39.95 for the reaction from him.

Been looking for one of these for a while. The belt wasn't tracking right, even with the adjustment, but a little cleaning and a couple drops of Mystery Oil and all is well. Worth the $35, I think.

Here ya go Outlaw. The stamping on the fount is terrible, but I believe this is a 228B dated to 1939. It cleaned up pretty nice. Came with the original globe.

No, the venerable 220 (and the big hat version 228) are arguably the most popular lantern ever built. I have just become enamored with the simplicity and economy of a well tuned single. totally personal preference.

My main user lanterns are all singles including:

A 1955 200A

A 1937 142B (People have complained about how bright this one is)

A "Franken lantern" with a 222 backpackers top on a larger 24 oz. fount from a Canadian 321 (also very bright and will go 50-60% longer on the same fuel)

A "picnic table" Frank with a 1940's 242B to[ screwed into a 275 fount (32 oz of fuel, extra wide base, but lower so shorter, and has an ad on brim so if on a table you are not being blinded by it)

A 1942 242B screwed into a brass Canadian 200A fount (24 vs 20 oz of fuel - not planned but the 47 found was rusted through on the bottom so DOA...)

All of these are single mantle adn all of then are about as bright as any average 2 mantle lantern.

I'm setting up to add 2 of the earliest 242 models; -a 242 NL (No letter) from 1932-35, and a 242A from 1935. Both fit into a wooden ammo box I converted to stand on end and be what a friend calls an "expedition box".

So totally my personal preference. The 2 mantels do fine, they are just physically bigger, and use more fuel per hour (which is why they have larger founts), have two mantles to potentially break/maintain, ( and need 2X the mantles a single does...)

I have even seen three mantle lanterns (generally hanging lamps or someone's creation - Fun, but not my cup of tea.)

I also picked up this antique display case...

...which has a pretty good story attached to it, too.

I first spotted it this morning before I hit the road when I took my dog, Patchez (yes, with a "z", she's a rescue from Puerto Rico), for a walk. There was a big white POD out in front of the house and it was at the curb with a ping-pong table and a big "FREE" sign leaning on it. Tomorrow is bulk pick up day, so not unusual. It was a little dark to make out exactly what it was. In fact, I didn't even seen the frosted cut-glass panels until I went back to check it out.

The homeowner was outside with his son hauling more stuff out of the house. Turns out he is moving into a newly built house directly across the street from his current house, which he has owned for 24 years. It gets better. The display case came out of the house he bought and knocked down to build the new house! His wife was going to try to refinish it, but decided against it, so out to the curb it went. It gets better yet. They were friends with the former owners of the house he bought and knocked down, an elderly couple, and then, recently, just the woman, a widower whose husband owned a barbershop. That's where the case was for many, many years.

As you guys know, I have been hoping to run into antique barristers or any kind of stacking bookshelves with a glass lid, but this will do very nicely. It has sliding doors for access in the back. I am going to keep my entire 1920's socket set collection in the bottom and rotate a few of them at a time in the top to suit my fancy.

Lugz, awesome display cabinet! Try using a little original GoJo hand cleaner on a rag. Try it on a small spot first, but I have found the results to be a amazing on finishes you only want to clean.

Trip to Jake’s Flea this beautiful morning. A lot of vendors, but I’m about out of fun money, so less spending. $12.50 got all in the first picture. Other pics are sightings I didn’t buy.
