I wish it were an M12 Surge! I really want to stick with mostly M12 stuff but $104 isnt a bad deal for that driver.

$153.49 for the M12 surge when you buy with M12 battery. See if you can get 10% off the kit, and the end price will be $134.72. I'd say 2x2ah are worth $30, though not much more

By worse if they mean less powerful, then duh. All the M12 tools are weaker than their M18 counterparts.

Milwaukee has advertised the m12 surge with the same 450 ft lbs as the M12, and the of their talking points at nps19.

Now being a couple years after the M18 came out, I could see how the m12 could have the same power due to advancements in technology. Videos comparing the two obviously shows this is not the case. Would be nice if Milwaukee realized this, as it is easy to see they do not have the same power

i think someone (in this thread? or the milwaukee thread) reviewed the new m12 surge and said it was worse than the m18 in almost every way

What I've seen is that the M12 spins a couple hundred rpm faster, but it has somewhere around 1000 fewer ipm. So on light duty stuff it should be pretty much a wash. But when your driving large fasteners then the fewer ipm become a lot more important and it drives slower. In the VCG video both drove big lags to basically the same depth, but it took the M12 longer to get there.

the deals are not great right now. I hope we dont need to wait until thanksgiving for better deals. perhaps august is just slow, and not worth offering anything better, but September, when people start doing that lawn thing will cause the return of the better deals.

M12 surge kit with 2 batteries and charger plus promo battery

Unfortunately A52, if you notice in icu2tsx's pic, the end date is 11/4. I have a pic of the full promo, but the expiration is too small. This, along with the 'buy m18 bare tool or some kits, get 5ah free' promo will be the major offer most retailers have until the holidays. Of course there will be other sales or deals until then, just not such a long period or advertised as much.

Along with the Surge, the same deal in-store includes buying the m12 jigsaw, stapler, bandsaw, rocket light, Fuel 3/8" ratchet, Fuel 3" cutoff, Fuel circular. few other tools have it online.

Unless a killer deal comes along on the newer 4.5 grinder, maybe the 12" slider or framing gun that I really don't need, hopefully it will just be accessories for a while.

Just doing a cursory search - cheapest I can find the 9.0 is about $120, about $50 for the 5.0, and about $115 for the bare grinder. That puts you at $285 without the bag or charger. You, like probably all of us, have no need for another charger but the bag is probably worth a few bucks. I'd much rather get my hands on a hard case (which exists).

A 2780-22HD which has a hard case and 2x9.0 batteries can be had for a little less than $600. 2780-22 which has 2x5.0 batteries and the hard case can be had in the $375 range.

So...I'd say it seems like a solid deal. Can probably get a hard case for $40 or less if you're like me and absolutely have to have one.

Not sure if there are any HD deals/discounts/etc. you can stack with this. I wonder what the return value is on the bag, if you can return it separately.

Can you return individual items if you buy online?

Note: The 2780 has a paddle switch and no lock, so if you're going to be using it extensively you may want the 2781 or a different version?

I'm trying to talk myself out of this one myself...

I'll talk you out of, sort of. Buy the grinder in store for $179 with "free" $129 5ah battery. Grinder will be $104.03 on the receipt, battery $74.97. Return the battery, and buy a 8ah for $100 on ebay if you need a battery. I try my best to not get anymore non-HO batteries.

If you can manage to just get 10% off the grinder, it will be $89.46.

One question @2manytools... Seems like none of the stores around me have the 2780 grinder in stock - if I buy online, can I still return the battery? Alternatively, would I be able to return if I buy online and choose ship to store? Thanks!

Unfortunately not. Only when the items show up as separate skus in the cart, can you do that (which is what occurs in store). Most Milwaukee promos are bundled online & can not be split. Ship to store doesn't help, still one sku for both items.

The promo goes until Nov. 4, so you have a bit of time. Some stores can also order the grinder in store (though if yours is one that can, not all associates are aware it seems :headscrat) and ring it out with battery so you still get the promo.

Damnit I really want the die grinder and angle grinder. None in stock anywhere near here.

Nov 4th you say.....

If die grinder has any promo, it isn't in store. Most stores don't stock that tool anyway, so don't look too hard. Only grinders they usually carry is the brushed & Fuel 2780-20 models.

Just wanted to say thanks - I found a store that had the promo grinder in stock, and sweet talked one of the cashiers into giving me 10% off. Now off to another store to return the battery... [emoji106]

  1. Be nice.
  2. Have the item you are purchasing in hand, ready to check out so they can see what kind of discount you're asking for.
  3. Mention that in the past you've been able to get 10% discount off of some items, and ask if there's any way this discount can be applied to this purchase.
  4. Be nice.
  5. If I didn't mention it already, BE NICE.

How do you sweet talk a cashier into giving you 10%?

Mention you will fill the survey out. The cashier will get feedback for good service (or bad I suppose) from those, and really the only way it is really recognized by management. If you notice the little hammer pins they have on their aprons, that's how they get them.

Edit: thought I was in HD deals

I would definitely prefer the 2781, but I've never seen a deal on one, and they're not stocked by my local store at all. Don't understand why.... I find it easier to use the grinder accurately when I don't have to worry about holding the switch down all the time. :headscrat

Ok you were right, they do not honor online promos in store. The display in store does not list the die grinder. The manager was kindof pissy too.

Ended up with the angle grinder. I'll probably wait for version 2.0 of the die grinder. one with variable speed.

I picked up 2781-20 today. Only one store near me had them in stock. There is an in-store display which lists it as included in the promo.

Are there any kits or combos that come with a 12.0 battery besides the chainsaw? I just got a chainsaw and want a second 12.0.

Best price might be to just get an individual 12.0 off ebay?
