Wiring a duel voltage well pump motor

What are my options for wire and breaker sizing? Motor is 12.2/6.1 amp the max amps are16.2/8.1.

Thats alot of pump for a shallow well. I would do 240v also...inless you ever want to run it on a 120v generator.

Would 12ga on a 40amp single pole breaker work? 16.2amp makes it 12ga 2.5 x that for startup breaker 40amps?

Good luck finding a 1 pole 40...

This is going on a dedicated circuit no matter what so just wire it for 240. 14 gauge wire on a 2 pole 20.

Why do you insist on running it on 120v?

Also, the multiplier for in-rush current is not 2.5x

In-rush current can be 4x-8x the FLA on the nameplate. But thats not how to size the breaker.

All it needs is a pressure switch. They are usually good to 2hp without a starter.

No pump controller. But trying to get an ball park idea of what is needed I see breaker and wire size very greatly from chart to chart. Would like to pick up the parts soon will have to order a breaker just might use the 25amp one I have until then.

If this pump has a start winding(3wire with no ground or 4 wire with ground), it will most definitely need a controller/starter.

This is a shallow well pump. It has a regular motor. Capacitor, start switch all that is in the motor. All you need to do is turn the power on and off. Notice how the enclosure type is open drip proof and it has a standard frame size.

A submersible pump would need a pump control.

Having a 1 hp motor. on 120volts really not recommended because thats a lot of amperage on a circuit breaker panel causing a imbalanced load on it.

35a would probably be the correct size. Easy enough to order but why?

@240v, the pump can have a total cable length of 130' w/#14.

@120v, #12 cable is needed and only good for 52'.
@120v, #10 cable is needed and only good for 80'.
