And from a Barn Sale (quite literally, this house had a small barn!) So literally "Barn Fresh" (and looks it!) A Coleman 275 gas lantern - my first, and definitely needs some work but for a buck? these are affectionately known as "the turd" in Coleman circles (fitting in this case!)

And some of the meager markings off the sword:

This got me to the maker:

An a "V" marked in several places, (it may have been a factory "key" to keep parts together? :dunno: Pommel has one also

The 275 post cleanup, and with the addition of a globe from one of my old profane lanterns... - the pump leather needs soaking but looks new and unused other than being dry!

The only real "Battle damage" is the top is blistered (this almost looks like paint rather that Enameling..)

The Fount doesn't even have any rim rash! I don't think this was used for more than part of one tank... I'll be test firing tomorrow with the remnants of the fuel in it...)

I haven't posted much recently but today I picked up the below fans and I think I really scored. The sale was advertised as a "picker delight" barn sale. The barn was in rough shape and packed with items. Everything was covered in a layer of thick dust, didn't look like anyone had been touching that stuff in ages. Anyway, got to go in the house too and found both these fans in a 3rd story bedroom that was packed with stuff. Lots of of old stuff everywhere. The newspaper lining the shelves was from 1942. Once I saw the the bigger GE fan and its shiny brass blades I knew it was coming with me. I kept looking and found the Westinghouse one shortly after. Both fans work and really move some air. They don't make anything like these things today.

There wasn't much in the way of tools but I did manage to find some older Channellocks and a stubby Matco flat bladed screwdriver. Plus the ice cream scope for the wife, that's a tool right....

Picked up a quilt and various other some items and the grand total was $70.

Been a while since I had the time and conditions to get out. Found a bench dog, a outfeed roller on a folding stand and a gauge cluster for a early '70's Toyota Land Cruiser. I will put the dog and stand to work and flip the cluster on eBay.

Picked up this sweet cabinet less than a mile from home. The lady that had the garage sale said her husband just died and everything was a buck. I asked about the cabinet, she told me one buck, I offered her 10 bucks. A neighbor was keeping track of the sale for her and thanked me for not taking advantage of the lady.

Nice pick up on the fans Jack, and you're right about the build quality. These were made to run all day and night, before AC was common. Don't forget to lube the oil wicks.

It is an oscillator. Rotates smooth as silk too. If anybody knows anything else about it I'd love to here it.

Can you post an image of the backside? It looks like it might be a collar oscillator.

Boofer is right. If you intend to run the fan, replace all the grease in the gearbox and replace the felt wicks and fill the cups with fresh oil.

I cleaned up the little Mayes combination square I posted in my free haul from yesterday...Evaporust did a good job of removing the rust from the rule, but unfortunately it's pretty badly pitted and there's nothing I can do about that. The head cleaned up nicely, it's a zinc casting so there was no rust but I did have to flatten the faces with some 400 grit wet or dry paper on a granite surface plate, followed up with a little polishing.

Might be more than you paid but I've found these blades to be a nice replacement.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Blem-Cosme...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

It is a collar oscillator. I don't know much about it and I thought it was form the 1920's but after more research, correct me if I'm wrong, the collar oscillator was only made one year in 1914. I'm super excited about it and hopefully this doesn't create a new addiction :lol_hitti

Here's some other pics. Its still dirty I haven't even had the chance to wipe it off.

^^^It will!!!

Those collar oscillators are pretty scarce and I haven't seen one in 16". Yours is really a "cream puff"!! It's tough to find them in nice original and complete condition. Your **** even more!!!

The collar oscillator wasn't the most robust GE oscillating mechanism design but that's why they're scarce.

Nice stuff guys. The flea market didn’t let me down today. Nor did the Kia.

25 bucks.

Seller wanted 30. I really wanted it as I need it, but the thought of getting it home and in the garage deterred me. I walked back over there an hour later and he said $25, and his buddy agreed to deliver it for $10.

I measured up the back of my car and perfect fit. Just cleared.:)

This is just what I needed and fits perfectly in my little garage. I never needed to buy a bench before, but it’s been on my mind, and now I’m happy.

Well, had a nice little yard sale haul today. A little dissapointing...read more for that...but still good.

Found the biggest monkey wrench I've personally seen. Including wood handle, it sits right at 21" long. There is writing on the head but it's obscured with rust, possibly Bemis & Call.

A very interesting looking, large (6") Grand Dual Grip Quickcet C-clamp. The main screw has notches in it, rotate the screw 90° and you can free slide it to where you want, rotate back and it's set. Then the small handle on the side is for fine adjustment. Or so I think, the small screw is seized so I can't test this one yet. Wearing an olive drab crinkle paint in nice shape, and the screws/handles are copper plated. I've seen Grand Quickcet vises, but never a clamp like this.

-Proto Los Angeles 8161 shorty offset DBE, 1/2"×9/16"
-unmarked 1/4 drive wing nut socket
-Matco USA WCL186 long 9/16" 6 pt combo (Bonney-made)
-Proto Los Angeles 1218-L long 9/16" 12 pt combo
-1/2" dia. × 7.5" long brass drift
-Plomb Los Angeles 1130 DBE, 5/8"×9/16"

Lastly, a Dazor Floating Fixture light. This did work, and mysteriously fell over while testing (the lady of the house and her Mack truck **** ). Broken bulb, no more worky. On the bright side, there was an instant price drop from $10 to $1.

My grand total spent here was $11. Crossing fingers I can find bulbs for the Dazor...

So I went out for the Sunday half of the big weekend, and while there were a few more people selling that were not yesterday, and the Pros we all setup for the Sunday Flea, it was relatively quiet.

Most of the prows were (as usual) overpriced, but a few were not and one was "selling to" to at a minimum, reducing inventory ("everything's a buck!") - I bought a glass inkwell (going to become my "pen cup" at work - I only have 2 on my desk...) and a small short rectangular vase, for SWMBO for when she forces bulbs at Christmas. The book of 20 postcards was later in the day, for a couple of bucks - all cards present and in great shape! Based on the lack of ANY motor vehicles in the pics, I suspect this is from about turn of the century.

I got the banjo-Uke and the steak knives for $20 total. hey wanted 20 for the Uke and 5 for the knives (which I thought astonishingly low) but I ask and got them both got the 20!

The knives are Rogers Plate, and the box is Japan? :dunno:

Two bucks for the 10 gauge wire, the tools were late in the run. A buck each; A ford wrench, 2 Plvmbs, a big 27mm Hazet, Barcallo, SK - Wayne, and three DOE's from a set, (Bridgeport? I can't recall the diagonal pattern). That "hammer" is horn for the head, I've NO clue what it was for but possibly for a percussion musical instrument? :dunno: - Definitely a first for me!

And in the next pic, same seller, a stethoscope

Right near my rig, I picked up this Cot for $10! Made in USA, Wood Frame, poly fabric, Byer is a 125 year old company... appears to list for about 190!

Near the very end, for cents fifty, a brass Candle lantern:

And Same driveway, different guy a 3 horse Trolling motor, I bought to resell. (I do pretty fair on these bought right...)

This weekend I didn't have much time for garage sales. I had some things to do Thursday and Saturday. Friday after 10 AM was taken up taking my son to the airport to return to college. Traffic was horrible and it took twice as long to get to the airport as usual. We had planned a leisurely meal along the way - NOT!!!

Friday morning there were only a few sales advertised locally, and the first two were complete busts! :( On the way back from a rural swing, I passed a TOO that produced the following for $1.50 total (photo 1):

1" dia. by 7" long brass drift
Petersen 7CR vise grips
Williams 3/4 Superrench combo

The next stop was advertised as a "4 family" sale. It had only one thing that I desired, a metal tap and drill chart, which was unpriced. The woman went into the house to get her husband to price it. When we talked price, I asked it he had any tools for sale. He thought a little bit and replied "I think I have some I could sell." We entered the garage and he pulled aside a blue tarp to get at some things, and asked if I welded. I said yes, an out came the welding clamps. We kept going and ended up with the items in the rest of the photos. He didn't want to start digging in tool boxes, but invited me back for a private showing!

Went back to the estate sale my son went to on Friday and found a few leftovers. Paid $15 for a Huot drill index; Proto combo wrench; Craftsman Proto and SK sockets, monkey wrench, Phillips screwdriver, drift pins, Craftsman awl, Thorsen 3/8 extension, tweezers, and pack of angle brackets.

Second stop at a local surplus building supply shop yielded 12 feet of molding, a small Husky screwdriver and 7 combination wrenches from Duro Chrome, Barcalo, Thorsen and Master Mechanix for $5.0f75650952f06c04399720d9f5867fc2.jpgb511e352b21590692a1fef3718ea9ee6.jpg1043a74a60eb83b0d9384f406933e8e8.jpg1d1e8de151e2eacd931ced5cbc7cebc5.jpg

Some tools in addition to the Craftsman bench.

Mac SAE and Metric allen sets for $25. The SAE are quite rusty. Seller had lots of Mac. I acted too slow on a nice Mac 3/8 inch lb torque wrench, almost new in the case for 20 bucks. Turned to the other side of the aisle and it sold in a bundle deal minutes later. Oh well, you snooze you lose.

Proto body hammer with the green handle.
Snap On 1/2” breaker bar, less the chrome.
Armstrong Vanadium box wrench.

Had a pretty good socket day.
Thorsen 1/4” spinner handle.
Kobalt, P&C, a couple Snap On. Craftsman drag link. Bonney deep.
Pics 4 a d 5 are all metric. S-K, bunch of Proto, Duro, and some nice Bonney.

Bonney chisel also.

Then I finally was able to buy this old Wiliams Bantam box and contents from a regular vendor. :) Bantam is 3/8, but there are also 1/2” sockets in there. He let it go for $20, rather than whatever crazy price he said in the past. It’s been sitting there a long while. He did however want $10 for a rusty 3/8 Thorsen breaker bar, when I know he wanted $3 once before. Whatever he feels like charging, that’s how it works. :dunno:

Williams. Not a complete set but I can likely fill in the rest.

Kind of neat with the 8 pointers in there.

Two Proto Los Angeles and an Apex in there too.

After yesterday’s disappointing day at the Tahoe flea, I tried a few Sunday garage sales. Most of the sellers said that the tools had gone on Saturday but the last sale yielded a few interesting tools. The 1/2” drive speeder is slightly bent but is a ‘30s pre long C New Britain made Craftsman BE. The ratchet is a Western Auto with no COO. The long 1/2” drive ratchet is an S-K with a broken drive which S-K will replace for free. The DBE is a Tiger Tools and I robbed the handle from the little hatchet to install on my half hatchet head that Username gifted me for my WW2 carpenter’s set No 1

That "hammer" is horn for the head, I've NO clue what it was for but possibly for a percussion musical instrument? :dunno: - Definitely a first for me!

Outlawmws - that horn hammer looks oldschool metalsmithing (gold/silver/copper etc). Non-marring like a rawhide; paper, wood or plastic mallet. I have a nice cow horn in my "projects" raw materials pile to use to make a mallet.

Nice find on it! I hear they smell worse than burning hair when you drill the handle eye...

here is a good page with detailed instructions:

Wwnt to an estste sale on Saturday. Walked to the garage and everything was laid out neatly and everything was well cared for it seemed. But the prices was pretty high. Nothing really stood out as something I wanted but this drill doctor for $50 caught my eyes. I've always wanted to get one but for the actual price it was too high for me to gamble based on the 50/50 opinion of how it works. So I was talking to the lady and she asked me what I'd want to give for it since I mentioned that $50 was kinda high. I said I'll tell you what, I'll give you a tip about all of those 18v DeWalt tools you got laying around. When I told her that they sell an adaptor to attach the 20v batteries to them she said I can have the drill doctor for $25! She also proceeded to take alot of the DeWalt tools off the table. So I paid her and left to two other sales that proved to be a bust.

Sunday I went to the flea market and had my oldest step daughter with me. We got green and red tomatoes for $4, I got her a zebra pattern suitcase with a carry bag in it, she's already put it in her closet, and I picked up these gripmates new in the box. Interesting but I decided I rather sell them instead of keeping them. Also picked up some Christmas village buildings for my wife's future Christmas village tree. Wasn't too bad of a day but spent $18 for Everything today. Only had pics of the gripmates.

In Googling I found that sale page! so yeah, specialty metal forming and jewelry making!

Outlaw, you ****, on that sword! I'm envious as hell. Congrats.

Thx Lump! I'm pretty happy in that for sure!

Saw an advertisement on Marketplace last week for what seller thought might be an antique book press. However, the long handle in picture had me thinking it might be someone who used it for a veneer press on top of a lower portion of an antique barber chair.

When checked it out in person and asking if prior owner had been a woodworker, it confirmed above suspicions.

Did try and pump up the barber chair, but no luck at owner's location.

Ended up buying it anyway. After dismantling the setup and a good cleaning including the hydraulics, replaced the old hydraulic oil and put in new hydraulic oil, then gave it a try today to see if it could be used as an adjustable stand for a vise.

Here is result and it now raises and lowers, can spin on base or locked with no spin.

BTW, this base is very heavy.

Mike
