I'm trying to put a set of Gray open end wrenches from the late 40, or '50s together. At the fleamarket I found one like this one, in better shape though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gr...anada-Open-Wrench-Tool-1-2-9-16-/253633586497

Also the newer version but Gray Maple Leaf 3/4 x 11/16 and a 7/16 full polish Gray combination, which I didn't have. For sockets I got a couple of SK deeps from the late '50s to the early '60s, handy sizes 3/4 and 15/16 . A couple of scuddy old Bluepoints, 1" and 1 1/8". Bluepoints around here are kind of rare to find. It was also odd on the SK sockets, two different vendors and sockets from a short time period 60 years ago. I spent $10

Went to one Estate Sale. Sadly, no tools worth picking up, however we did get this cool clock
IMG_7298r.jpg
along with a boatload of household items. With what we spent, we got this free bottle which included the contents.....
IMG_7296r.jpg
dating from 1967.

I think my Aunt had that clock! definitely a late 50's thing!

Back when I still drank, Canadian was my fave. usually had to make do with Canadian Club, but VO was great stuff! bet that is Smooth now!

Pman - cool find on the Schrade multi tool! I didn't know they made one! How is it, quality wise, adn what tools does it have?

Saw an advertisement on Marketplace last week for what seller thought might be an antique book press. However, the long handle in picture had me thinking it might be someone who used it for a veneer press on top of a lower portion of an antique barber chair.

When checked it out in person and asking if prior owner had been a woodworker, it confirmed above suspicions.

Did try and pump up the barber chair, but no luck at owner's location.

Ended up buying it anyway. After dismantling the setup and a good cleaning including the hydraulics, replaced the old hydraulic oil and put in new hydraulic oil, then gave it a try today to see if it could be used as an adjustable stand for a vise.

Here is result and it now raises and lowers, can spin on base or locked with no spin.

BTW, this base is very heavy.

Mike

That is a really cool vise stand! Good thinking.

Well, it FINALLY looks like I may have a chance to team myself to weld. I picked this new, never used Lincoln 100 HD Weld Pack this afternoon on CL. It was about 5 minutes from my house. The guy was a woodworker who does TV & movie sets. Said he bought it a few years ago for a 1950 Ford coupe he was restoring. He said he ended up selling the coupe before he restored it and thus the welder never got used. I paid $200. It came with everything in the pics. I'll read the literature included with the welder. And as I just picked up 'Welding for Dummies' from the local library I'll read that as well. I want to post a thread on it because I'd like to get feedback on it and what things I should immediately upgrade like getting a helmet rather than that handheld "screen". Read on a recent thread that a good "ground clamp" is desireable. I think it's a decent deal because I finally have some kind of welder that I can start learning with even if it's really low end. I'm super stoked!

PS Any recommendations on which forum to post my new to me welder thread in?

I've got the same one. Bought it to do rust repair panels on my59 VW single cab. I've had it for 15 years, it was 459 on sale at home depot. Get an auto shade helmet from Harbor Freight, nice and cheap.

I found four rusty wrenches at a one hour “moving sale” today. It turned out to be a seller that does a garage sale most weekends. I failed to notice that the address was the same. The wrenches are two Thorsen ratcheting combos, an S-K and a Lectrolite tappet wrench.

Rags, that Herbrand set is sweet, as are the Plomb badges! I have one of the Knicker boxer boxes, and I think they are for radio repair. I use mine for bicycle tools.

Rags returns! It's like Xmas in August! :)

Zip Zip sling shot
Nice.

Herbrand 3/8 set in good shape...and a Kopr-Klad Plomb Spud
Very nice and uncommon on both!

Is that a metal badge/decal? What are the dimensions? Maybe off a big jack? It's early. 20's to 40's logo. It's cool but it's not $75 cool! Good lukc on waiting it out.

Herbrand brker
I don't think I have ever seen one with a panel like that.

Packard parrot head pliers
Packard pliers...
You know my saying. "One of anything is just one. Two is a collection!" :)

Hit the triple early bird this morning. Not much.

Complete L.S. Starrett surface gage. And the L-shaped thing is a multi-wrench. Three different square sizes on one side, three different hex on the other. Kind of gimmicky, but the more and more I think about it, also useful and efficient in the right circumstances. Unmarked.

I've had the same welder for years. do yourself a favor and spend the $120 or so for the gas conversion kit. it's a nice little machine, I do a bunch of sheet metal work with it.

Nice score TX, I'm fairly new to welding and you definitely want a auto-darkening helmet, you will need both hands to weld instead of holding up that face shield. Look up Welding Tips and Tricks on YouTube too.
I will need to get that book you mentioned.

Hit an estate sale that started at noon today with the garage open at 11:30. I'd spotted a couple of possibilities in the garage pics and was hoping to find some interesting US and/or Texas history books among the extensive library. I grabbed the Craftsman Crown 2-drawer toolbox, a Stanley No 220 block plane before the main house opened. Disappointingly, I found no history books that I really couldn't live without. Did find the Rockaway Metal Prod box (my 2nd one) and the unmarked fire-resistant box (both have the keys) when I took a last look in the garage. Grabbed what looked like a yard rake for kids for my wife. My son has already said he wants the Craftsman box. FWIW, the inside of that box looks like it was never used. Is that likely a 60's box? I'll wire wheel the rust off the outside before I give it to my son.

I've had the same welder for years. do yourself a favor and spend the $120 or so for the gas conversion kit. it's a nice little machine, I do a bunch of sheet metal work with it.

ec, I'd love to convert it. If you'll only tell me where I can get the mig conversion kit for $120? It's double that at the big orange box store.

Thanks jayman!

RT! Welcome back! ;0) You have definitely been busy! Lot of good stuff you've been finding. As usual. Like that Estwing long handled hatchet (axe?). I'm not familiar with Paschall but love the look of that ball peen hammer set you're collecting. That Blackhawk sign (or whatever it is/was) is very cool as are those Plomb badges! You ****!

Picked this lot up yesterday.
Sockets are all Snap-on. Impacts are a little rusty. Chromes are date code 2018.
I will probably keep the new style 1/2" impact PT850 & ebay my MG725.
I like the large torque dial compared to the old hard to rotate style.
3/4 1250 is pretty ugly, but works.
Long 3/8 ratchet is mint.
Older torque wrench works fine.
Blue KRS box checks out, used but not beat.
I put $1250 into the deal.
Not a steal, but I can live with it.

Oh,
then this 36" Rigid came home at a cost of 12 bucks from a yard sale.
It was pretty nasty with slopped concrete & rust, but looks nice now.

Not a garage sale find but CL find today. 3/4" drive Proto Metric Socket set, basically unused. Purchased from a local GM plant mechanic who is counting the days until retirement, and who already sold the house and is getting out of NY heading to Florida......he was basically selling cheap to lighten his load. $100

I'd say, just the ratchet is worth $100.00. Good job!
