Re: My Murphy bed avoided Murphy's law

Wow- That's cool, and nice workmanship! I'm in the process of building a Murphy bed in our basement. I might steal that desk top idea if I can incorporate it with my hardware. That is- if I ever GET my hardware. I ordered a kit, and they keep backordering the thing. I'd cancel the order, but I've already built the cabinet to their plans and dimensions.

Anyhow, mine is pretty basic. Just a big box to house the bed and hardware, and shelves on either side. I learned (after I bought the kit) that they don't recommend using it on a wall with metal studs because there's a LOT of force generated by the lift system, and if it pulls loose from the wall, the cabinet would come slamming down. Plan B- I made the cabinet tall enough so I could lag screw it to the floor joists overhead. That sucker ain't going anywhere. If I ever get my kit, I'll post a thread about it.

Nice work Jack. Would it be possible to remove the A/C unit, patch the hole, and put a ductless mini split in its place? That way the actual patch job wouldn’t be all that noticeable.

Looks great, I really like the pillow storage area on the side. Desk to a ready made bed in seconds!

Let's put this all together. I just finished a 34-day stretch of projects, on and off. That goofy Murphy bed and desk, the subway-tile bathroom, the rest of the office, new stain on the deck, then cleaning up the driveway, the garage, the basement, filling two big dumpsters along the way. All of this in preparation for an all-grandparents visit for my son's recital this weekend.

Everything got finished. And importantly, there was never that day where I uncovered the much-bigger-problem-I-hadn't-forseen that was going to mean all deadlines getting scattered to the wind.

Cheers to that.

I'm disappointed that they put your video within their paid section. Jack is a man of the people!

I agree that is an awesome short film of you and your car!
Question, does your car slide during some of the turns? Like the first on where the video is at about 30 seconds?

Yes, I slide quite a bit. Most of the time (in corners, at least) the car is experiencing some amount of understeer, oversteer, or a state where the direction the tires are pointed is not the same as where the car is pointed.

Probably less than usual in this footage, though, since I was going slower for shots where they were following me or the photographer was out there crouching down on the track.

Jack,
Cool video. It's been awhile since I've seen (but maybe I've missed it) what your PR best lap time now stands.

What is it and what's your new goal?
