Why don’t roller covers fit roller frames?

I haven’t painted anything in a long time, but I have a pain in the neck problem. I have two different frames left in the garage, so I bought a selection of covers. 9” frames, 9” covers.
They don’t fit! I have several brands of covers and all are about 3/4” too short. Oddly, the project started with glue, and a specialty “epoxy and adhesives” cover that I bought fit just fine. Didn’t know I had the problem till I started priming.

My dad owned a Ben Moore store for 18 years. I worked there most of my youth, and I never saw this issue. Is this just a cost cutting issue, like Walmart t-shirts being shorter than Dept store t-shirts of the same brand? Do I have two different (quite different style/handle) frames of the same odd-ball brand?

It still functions, but sure adds to the mess.

I can't say I've run into that problem, perhaps an issue with the local brand available to you?

It has been about 9 months since I used a paint roller so possibly I just worked around it and didn't consciously notice thinking that is just how things are.

Since I do tend to go some time between painting I generally start fresh each time, new roller, new covers. If you have a good roller that you have had for sometime maybe the covers have been shrunk in size a bit over the years making the currently available covers a touch small for the older rollers?

I learned a trick from a painter, just leave the roller in paint pail, then it is already to go.

I have been using this method for years and works great.

The other thing I learned from him is to use the smaller diameter rollers, caused less mess/spray while rolling.

Does the roller get longer when you leave it in the pail?

I can’t believe I’m the only one who’s ever noticed this, but even Google seems to be stumped.
I did find what’s left of the tag on one of my frames and it reads 240mm.
In a search, I now find 240mm/ 9-1/2” frames listed as well as 9”. Nothing however about fitment of roller covers, different available sizes, etc.

Yup!
Problem has been around for a while. It all boils down to where you purchase your supplies. We used only BM for painting. Over time, we purchase some of our supplies on line by the case. However, paint, brushes, roller covers were always purchased at JC Lichts in IL and we NEVER had a problem !!!

Purchased roller covers at HD, L, or M and you get what your paying. If you commercial then no one cares..........

As for the paint roller cover on the frame, I never noticed. But then again I've been buying paint supplies from estate sales, so I got some old covers in my rotation but they still work!

Get one where the inside end slides. I have one and it fits every roller I've had. Sorry I looked and don't see a brand on it.

Might be like mine where the middle is kind of spring loaded. Have had that for a decade and never an issue. Cleans up easy. Hate the cheap ones with end caps that always get lost
