SK ratchet wrench quality

I love my SK tools but have mostly bought old ones until recently. I just ordered a 3/8 47 piece set and the ratchet that came with it has a big bulge to one side of the head. It looks lopsided but works perfectly.

Should I accept this as unimportant flaw that gives the wrench character(or perhaps a anti-theft mechanism), or reject it and request warranty because of doubts regarding the quality control that was applied during manufacture?

Picture of the offending bulge?

Is this an ebay purchase or from a retailer?

It's your money, if you're not happy, discuss it with the vendor or attempt warranty with SK :dunno:

SK makes great tools. but having said that, their QC checking before something leaves the factory leaves some to be desired. Usually SK does a good job of accepting the defective item and make it right

I have had a ton of S-K ratchets but they have all been vintage ones. Can't speak to modern tools from S-K . But from all I've read they seem quite good.

I have a large number of SK ratchets. Many older round head, as well as a couple of the newer round head and three low profile 90 tooth ratchets. All work perfectly.

I have also dealt with SK customer service on a couple of occasions. They are absolutely top shelf. I am confident if you contact them, I'm sure they will make it right.

Yep, all mine are from the 1970's and 1980's. I inherited a full SAE and metric set from my stepdad. They are great and well loved.

***** they allow defective tools to leave the factory. Ugh.

I own a long handled 3/8 in 1/4 body ratchet that appears not to have been ground uniform prior to plating, when looking at it from the selector side it’s painfully obvious. I’ve used it quite a bit without any thoughts of it failing due to its cosmetic deficiency, If it bugs you.. I’d contact SK without hesitation.

I see you are from Rockford, I have heard from an SK distributor that at their Sycamore headquarters they have some sort of warranty kiosk where you can walk right in and exchange tools. I am fairly close as well and have been meaning to find out for sure but have not yet.

I have called them on the phone and asked if they would do warranty exchanges and they said access is only for authorized dealers. You have to mail it in even if you live next door to the facility. I used to work ten minutes away in Dekalb IL so I figured it was worth trying but they told me there is no public entrance or common area or receptionist for servicing warranty exchanges. I could be wrong but I have not actually been to the facility because of that reason.

Yeah, I could be wrong too. That came from the guy behind the counter at Berland's tools, which is the only place I know of to walk in to buy sk. This was about a year ago and he made it sound like it was a new thing.

I've had many SK ratchets. I've seen a bunch that the head was off center. As it was drilled off center enough that it was noticeable. It didn't effect the ratchet at all tho. If it bugs you , send it back. You'll get a new ratchet back within a week and a half.
