Sunday I attended the last day of an estate sale. I found some items, and since it was 1/2 off price day, I got all this for $9.00.

Whitney punch set up for 3/16". (I have a full Whitney set, so this means I can set up for two sizes at once)
Micrometer countersink for aircraft work. It has a cutter with a 3/16" pilot.
Cleveland 21/32" drill bit
Hanson "Drillminder" drill index with about half the bits.
Billings 7/8" combination wrench. It has the trademark symbol so it is later production.
Lectrolite DBE 3/4x25/32
Lectrolite DBE 13/16x7/8
Proto 9704 screwdriver
P&C 1276 pliers

JoCo, the easiest way to cross post - esp with pics - is to open the post for edit, copy; all then paste in the other thread. all the pic links will work

Prov, I think I'm one pair away from having a dedicated punch for each size punch - the ultimate in laziness!

I keep getting side tracked and forgetting to post this- Late Sunday Yardsale - A Barcallo Buffalo Adjustable, and (I think) a 1 gallon SS pressure tank. a tenner for both.

Not clear what it was used for in its prior life, but someone cleaned it out and bead blasted the insides so its a new "virgin" .

I'm probably going to make this one into another "fuel station" for Coleman fuel/white gas. Its small for a water tank and I can't set it on a stove or in/near a fire, so not really a good choice for that, and I already have one for that anyway...

I cleaned up this formerly rusty tool I found at the flea yesterday. Is anybody familiar with this brand?

That tank looks like a 1gl version of the "5gal" soda syrup tanks. The base and quick disconnect are my clues. I've seen the 5 gl sizes repurposed for home brew beer making.

Sunday I went back to the estate sale I hit on Friday. Saturday was the last day but the woman who ran it was there cleaning up Sun aftermoon. I went back hoping they didn't sell all the old storage cabinets and hit-miss engines. They were all gone but I found a couple of things worth bringing back to the shop. Not sure what the original purpose was for the pedestal/table thing. Anyone know? I can find no maker's mark on it. There was a 16" piece of railroad track. Definitely not normal size track. It looks like it's marked Big ? Steel on the side. Would that be a forge mark? Anyone recognize it? The little one-drawer cabinet is full of parts (gears, NOS bearings, motor ?, ...). Found a spool of what looks like aluminum wire, 2 spools of twist ties and a 2 boxes of coffee stirrers (popsicle sticks) that 2000 sticks. I'm set for the rest of my days now.

Yesterday, I picked up a couple of magnetic bases, Brown & Sharpe and Starrett. Also picked up a Starrett die maker's square.

Yup. It's a common pattern and could have been made by many firms. Bunnell comes to mind.

Ok. I just googled telegraph key and I can see what's missing. Cool! Wish it had the missing parts. :0( Thanks for the identification!

TX, I think the spool of aluminum wire is for a MIG welding gun that has the spool inside the head.

On the track, how tall is it? I have about 6 or so pieces of light rail that go from 4" tall to < 2" The smallest are for mine or salt carts, the larger are for light rail like trolleys The 4" one is from the light rail that used to be on the Oakland Bay bridge.

I had a page that showed different available rail sizes, but can't find it just now... No guarantee yours would be on it as its old and may be to an older standard, or none at all...

Exactly correct - I have one of the 5 gallon versions and use it for running water up camping/hunting. that one is all metal down south, so i can set it near a fire or even in the coals for hot water for washing or even showering.

The plastic base on this one precludes that...

Wow. You have a piece of Key System rail from the Bay Bridge? That’s cool. When I was a young child I rode the Key System F train across the bridge on a trip from Berkeley to Playland at the Beach. I probably travelled on your piece of rail!

Gentlemen: I dont know if this has previously been reported here or elsewhere, but I'm saddened to relay the end of an era. As of July 23d, the great Craftsman/Emerson radial arm saw $100 recall program has been cut...in half. Emerson will now pay a bounty of only $50 for a permanently disabled RAS. They've also decreased their costs further by only requiring pictures of the nameplate and of the power cable cut in two places. No more shipping the motor and carriage back in a free box.

Presumably, you can now turn in 10 before they start reporting your "earnings" to the IRS.

Still a good deal for the rare "Free" saws close by, but no longer worth going after the cheap ones.

Good to know, I've only seen RAS for $100 or more so there isn't a market of cheap RAS here. I've actually thought about getting one to use but they are just asking too much for them here.

Don, Outlaw,
The height of the rail is just under 4". The track a rail car would have ridden is just about 2". Base of the track is about 4". This piece of track is definitely old.

IMG_9387.jpgIMG_9388.jpg

Don,
What makes you say it is from the Key System rail on the Bay Bridge? Do you recognize the marking on the rail? Would that be the Bay Bridge from SF to Oakland?

Outlaw,
I think you're right about the wire being for welding. I can just make out "fumes" in what's left of the label. Any reason I can't use it as just wire? I need to fix an outdoor wind chime and was thinking this could work well to replace the string that it originally came with.

TX, Don was Commenting about one of my pieces of rail not yours.

A pic of the light rail sections by height. (I have more larger, but I think this is all the lights)

Far right is the Key System rail from the Bay Bridge

TX I think the one next to it is the closest to yours, but mine has the bottom flange not as tapered I think...

TX, on the Aluminum wire, Yes, it should be fine for that.

I found this out the hard way on the first saw I bought. I bid on a saw around the 20th. The auction closed on the 24th, lol. I was pretty shocked to see the page changed in the few days between when I bid and when I picked it up. I paid $36, so I only made $14 instead of $64.

Outlaw is correct. I was commenting on his Key System piece of rail. When the Bay Bridge from Oakland to San Francisco was built, tracks were provided for both the Key System and the full size Southern Pacific trains to cross on half of the lower deck of the bridge. The other half of the lower deck was for truck traffic. Passenger cars used the upper deck. As the light rail and passenger train traffic died out, the tracks were removed and the bridge was just used for vehicular traffic.

Very interesting pic of the Key Rail. It was a different style than all the rest of the mining gauge rails.

Another Letgo deal for the win. The head line for the ad was "tool box", pix were sideways & upside down, and the description was vague:

"Tool boxes
2 pcs.
Snap On
Red"

The big boy is a Snap-On KRA-21F. Vintage '94. 26 lbs!!. In good used shape, everything is straight, some scratches and paint loss. Needs a cleaning and the drawer slides need grease.

Unfortunately the tray is not original, didn't notice til I got home and saw the paint is slightly darker than the rest of the box. Oh well. Seller had no idea & had acquired it that way.

The tray is in worse shape than the rest of the box. However it fits like a glove, doesn't appear to be cut or modified. Wonder what it's from??? :dunno: I guess it's better than no tray.

Also came with this ridiculously large (for the contents) metal box from Williams USA set WSB-19, SAE 3/8 drive 24 pc. Box is 16×8×2.5" lol. It isn't stamped anywhere I could see, but the handle is identical to the KRA. The metal itself is perhaps half the thickness of the KRA.

Not bad for $40, not a you ****, but not bad. I've been after a KRA hand box for a while. They never come up for sale and when they do it is $$$.

Oiler
1941 dated Wright brake spoon
HeXo (Blackhawk) short double offset DBE wrench
Chrome-Alloy Williams 1725
Berg (Sweden) angled dykes

The tool with the bulbous wooden handle is a nut spinner/extension. It has a 6-point socket on the end of the shank and a 6-point opening in the end of the wooden handle. Not branded. I'm thinking 1920's, 30's at the latest.

The leather bag is a map/document case. I am not convinced it is military, but it's old, and it will make for a convincing accessory dispatch rider's bag.

How do folks?
I've been simply snowed under by work and life the last couple of months so been a little AWOL on the thread and out at flea markets.
Below was my only haul in the last few weeks.... The makita belt sander was a deal... But I like the Lockheed and Rolls Royce aircraft parts plates the most... Look good in the "shop" [emoji6]

Buuut Big News is work are sending me to the USA.. Tomorrow... For two weeks!!!!
So I've got this weekend in Houston, TX
And I'm in Denver, CO, next weekend. [emoji16]

Any locals here who can point me to decent Sunday fleas??? [emoji848]

Lugz. loving your new purse, er, map case! (Yes, I want one..)

EC: Nice score on the *********** Portable band saw!

Dave I've got a Williams socket box that I think was for 1/2" drive black wrinkle top and red bottom - I've had it full of electrical parts ever since I saved it from a dumpster in my 20's

Hello all,

My name is Bargainhuntingking and I am an addict.

I tried to be strong and I apologize for letting you all down. I swore at our last meeting that I was better and wouldn’t be tempted, but...

...I had a few minutes free this morning and could not resist checking out the pile of rusty garbage at my local ReStore. I recognize that I have a problem, and I should have avoided that part of town entirely, but I couldn’t control myself.

Then next thing I remember after blacking out was pushing a cart full of clapped out trash from some old grandpappy’s garage to the trunk of my car, with my pocket $50 lighter. I was shaking, nauseated and sweaty. I’m sorry for failing you all, I thought I had recovered, but I just couldn’t help it.

I needed another saw, portable tool box, #4 Phillips, Coleman 425E, retro gas can, XL Proto punch, and misc hardware like I need a hole in my head.

Please help me. Thank you all for your support. I’ll be quiet now and give the next one in the circle the chance to speak.

Hehe....;)

Check out the maul handle, it’s a friggin’ tree branch! $3!!!!

Heavy duty washers and chuck keys were $0.35

Stove was $5
