Fabricating a Firewood Rack

Maybe not the most glamorous build in the world, but just finished up fabrication on a new firewood rack for in the house. Had an existing one that I thought was a decent design, but way too small. So I borrowed from it and build myself a larger version.

Just learning how to TIG... again, lol. It's been about 15 years between lessons.

3D printed feet/tubing caps to protect the floor and give a finished look overall.

And the end result!

Pretty happy with it. I'm amazed that on a project so simple I learned quite a bit as well! As always, I made a video of the design/build process.

Thanks a lot. Having the woodburner is darn near a necessity where we live. We're not off-grid but we certainly have our fair share of access challenges with snow, and power outages, etc. We had a 5 day outage last winter, we would have been in serious trouble without the wood stove! As it was, we were warm and did all our cooking on it.

Looks great but i think the mess underneath would be a pain to clean all the time. I use a wood-box next to my fireplace to contain the mess. Doesnt look as nice as your rack but it's functional.

Wood is always somewhat messy however this is a larger than usual indoor wood rack. Nice job. I believe the space below wood rack is easy access for vacuum cleaner when the chief cook and bottle washer makes her rounds:thumb

Good comments about the mess. It seems to just go with the territory when it comes to wood. Lots of space to get under there with a vacuum though. In practice, we end up with our newspapers laid out on the lower shelf, so they do a good job of picking up anything that drops, and those get cleaned off into the fireplace before we fire it up each time.
