If you're looking for a good inexpensive light, I encourage you to look into the Convoy S2+.

For about the same price, you get 4x's the LUMENS with adjustable settings (low, med, high, strobe, etc. They use rechargeable 18650 li-ion batteries which you can salvage out of power tools, laptops, etc. Inexpensive chargers are plentiful too.

I've switched to these lights exclusively because I was sick of buying and replacing AA batteries and I'll never look back. I've collected a variety of batteries over time which are all charged and ready to go. I even purchased a headband that holds the light for hands free use.

Looks like Target is trying to clear these out. Marked from $26.99 to $16.99. I bought one in store and ordered a couple more on line for the cars.
-----------

I see the same $16.99 price on the Walmart and Amazon websites.

Are you sure the Target prices ending in 99 are supposed to be clearance?

Here's where I would buy from as a first time buyer. He charges more for batteries, but it's one stop shopping. And shipping for just a battery from somewhere else wouldn't save you any money.

The light, you can choose the tint you would like. I would lean towards neutral myself. They also have the light in different colors if black isn't to your liking.

A battery, it's not a super high discharge battery for the high end lights but it'll work well for an S2+ and has lots of capacity. It's also protected, so you don't have the worry about shorting it out unless you try to crush it.

And a charger, a nice cheap basic charger that will work with any micro usb charging cable.

This is really just the tip of the iceburg. It's a good starter light into the world of higher end flashlights.

One last thing I'll add is that this light and most high end lights aren't made in the US, so if that's a problem for you then stay away from this light. It is a really well built light though.

No, it's just that the 272 lumen has been superceded, and I assumed. Because the UPC is the same the Target store honored the price for the updated flashlight.

I saw the price on Walmart. As far as Amazon.com (.de is better), I always find myself questioning if what I get is a genuine article.

I was just trying to give back to the community with what I thought was a pretty decent sale price, that you can walk into a store & get.

Happened to be at a Wally World tonight procuring some stuff for Petit. In the store, the $16.99 are not the "pro". They want $19.47 for the mini pro. For the difference of under 100 lumens to over 300, that small difference is worth it.

On another note, I know that the Maglites are not the fanciest anymore, but they are extremely robust, have replaceable components and do perform well. The only failure I have is a couple of AA jammed in one, but the rechargeables get you past that.

I also know that it's corny (especially from one with 3 German cars) but buying Maglite does also support us manufacturing as opposed to China in this price range.

I recommend the metal power switch over the rubber for better feel. Pretty much every color except black has the metal switch. And if you're not familiar with these lights at all, here is a quick rundown...

7135 is the driver chip (draws from battery and feeds LED). More 7135 chips = more power to LED = higher output = warmer operating temperate = lower battery life.

  1. LED - Color Temp - Color Description
  2. XML2 U2-1A - 6500-7000K - Cool White
  3. XML2 T6-3B - 5000-5200K - Neutral White
  4. XML2 T6-4C - 4300-4500K - Neutral/Warm White
  5. XML2 T5-5B - 4000-4200K - Warm White
  6. XML2 T4-7A - 3000-3200K - Very Warm White

Get (request) the biscotti firmware if you want programmable modes (low, med, high, strobe, etc).

Oh, and I use unprotected 18650 cells; no issues. All of my lights are 7135x8 with U2-1A. They do get HOT while on high for extended periods. Not too hot to hold though. Just wanted to make sure you know.

Another vote for the Convoy S2+. I've had mine for 2 years and although most of the anodizing has worn off, it's still going strong. I run protected cells, and love the brightness and durability.

Unfortunately, your thread has been totally hijacked.

Try editing your opening post to say the ones you purchased from Target are actually over 300 lumens, and also that they are Made in USA.

I received the lights today. They are all the 332 lumen version. I think it's not a bad deal for this price.

I have had an incandescent mini maglite since high school. I always liked the quality of it but felt the light output is low. I grabbed one of these as well. Thanks for posting this up.

Instore today, the 330 (335?) lumen one was $26.**, but they matched the link to Target in this thread, so $16.99. Present for my dad who has half a dozen of the incandescent ones from the 90's and a couple converted from the early 2000's to LED. I'd bet that this one will put out more than the other 6 combined.

Thanks for the link.

Happened to notice these (the 331 lumen ones) are regularly $19.37 at Walmart yesterday.
