Charles Parker vise no. 205-4 1/2 the vise has 4 1/2” jaws and weighs in at 76 lbs. They actually attempted to do the -4 1/2 on the casting. This is a very early Parker, the scan is from a 1912 catalog. b620124099db7b811bc098be3f3d2e79.jpgf613aff016d5bc68feafdb520adffedf.jpgd29933e46e532f903a8eaaff0c4709f4.jpg662dab0324968e3f4e6794bb9584e022.jpg

Thanks shift, it was a fun day for sure. Pipe jaws are my Bermuda Triangle, they always seem to go missing for some reason.

Ugh, who beat me to the Parker 101? I spent too much time researching it, hit "buy it now" and it was gone!

“The early bird catches the worm”

The moral of the story is to spend even MORE time on GJ learning even more about vises and more time on eBay studying past sales and learning what stuff usually sells for.
That way when excellent condition 2 1/2 inch Parkers pop up you’ll KNOW that they’re worth way more than $88.

(disclaimer...the above advise came from a guy who waffled about doing a buy it now for an NOS baby bullet with an intact label and the original box for a mere $250)

Of course somebody else jumped on it. :(

Exactly right shift, I was only 90% certain that it was a good deal due to ignorance. Had I more knowledge I would have been the early worm.
Well done rusty.

Just to prove that I actually do USE vises, although in this case neither is a bench vise. LOL.

My wife wanted me to make a picture frame as a picture fell off the wall and the frame broke. Thought I'd use only handtools since it's a pretty simple job. But first the only saw that fits into my old Stanley picture frame vise without binding is blunt so I had to dig out my old Disston saw sharpening vise (I actually have a few saw sharpening vises). Those experienced saw sharpeners among you will notice I'm using the "crutch" of a Disston saw sharpening guide. I guess a good saw sharpener doesn't need such things, Regardless, the saw cuts really nicely now.

IMG-2545.jpg

Now I have to figure out how to sharpen my old hollow and round wood planes.

Dude, you have a nice wood shop set up. Post some of your work, I’d like to see it.

Serrat - that is such a sweet 98. And that stand is unreal. Great pick ups! Extremely jealous.

I need to weight that stand. It is ungodly heavy. I will post more photos of getting the stand out of the truck. There was my method..... Then my brother who is the engineer. Went with my brother's method!

So. I'm noodling through FB Marketplace and find a vise for $8. Since it catches my interest, I look at it. It's a broken Sheldon woodworking vise. I'd like to find out how it broke. Those vises are normally tough as a tank. Warning: The pictures may be upsetting. :(

Imagine this 150# guy getting it into a crate and the back of my truck without any lifting aids whatsoever! Maybe I should have been an engineer ... or a weightlifter!

I finished the Pow-r-arm this weekend. I am still astounded at the precision of the fit and the strength of holding power this has! The Czech baby bullet got painted to match along with the mount I made up. It's no baby bullet but I don't have to worry about hitting a $500 vise with a file either. I used an old can of Verde green for most of it. I used another much newer can for the mount and it was waaaaaaay more green. Luckily I had just enough in the old can to go over it.

Great finds over the weekend everyone!!! Some amazing iron out there. Especially jealous of the big combination parkers and that big prentiss!

OOhh Mr W....you have a REAL powrarm, not a powrarm junior. I'm jealous, that's a great welding positioner.

Ken, ya I had only seen the junior before. I bought this thinking that was what it was. I was shocked to see how heavy duty it was. I think i'll get a good amount of use out of this once I decide where to mount it.

These guys must think I’m crazy taking pictures of the back of their truck on the freeway doing 80 mph. In my own defense it was a pristine C2 so I feel justified.ea5f338583dbe1675c7dd5aef6edf0fd.jpg9e4f92a2627ce02f452761dd7759467d.jpg

Good photography Smitty.---No blurries while hitting a moving target, now that's talent.---While it does come under "DISTRACTED DRIVING", your subject matter warrants extenuating circumstance.---So you're not only excused, kudos to you.---You are right, that's a beauty.---It shows Cal-Val really cares.

I bet that truck doesn’t park outside at the curb at night.

Coincidentally, I bought my 500N from a company that also specialized in the maintenance, repair, and calibration of control valves.

VA, you have a Keen eye for detail. I take all of my photos with an iPhone 6 and I’m amazed that it doesn’t show any distortion when traveling at a high rate of speed. It must be a digital thing as opposed to a camera with a shutter.

I looked a bit closer at the first picture and noticed a military vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. That’s at least a 150 mph difference and yet the military truck is crystal clear.

It does seem like a really expensive vise to bolt on to the back of a truck. I think you’re right about secured parking.

Mr. Wonderful ---- You're right about how solid "the baby bullet" is.I have the Wilton SBV-100 made in Czech Republic. They're made by York vise in CZ but I don't know how much longer with the way Wilton is shifting sourcing to Asia. There is also an exact copy made in Taiwan and sold under the Yost brand.
Also, your verde green in the pictures looks more like hammertone light blue .

There is a guy near me that snags up good vises and does this same thing to them. Drives me nuts.

For the Zeus enthusiast: If you have a good friend near Frankfurt (that big Frankfurt) in Germany, (i.e. armed forces?), a cute Zeus VS2 vise (3.5") could be yours for 55 Euro + price to get it to you (dunno if I should include the link here, don't think so).

Lol there is a guy local to me who flips vises and he doesn't do the monochromatic paint scheme that I've seen...but he does not do the vises any favors when he paints them. He is a member here but I don't think he tries to sell them here...wonder why...lol...but yet he is all over letgo, offer up, etc.

Jay, It's a little more green than the light blue. I'll have to get a picture of it next to my 9450 to show the contrast. Every can of verde green I have bought recently has been much more green than blue. They must have changed the formula. The can I used for this one I think I've had for more than 10 years!
