I picked up a Delta Band Saw off Facebook Marketplace a couple days ago for 80 bucks. From the old catalogs it seems I paid less than the 1943 price with the options it has, like the belt guard, stand and motor. The serial number, 22-1069, dates to 1943. It has an open stand, which I believe makes it an 892 model saw. It also has a Delta 82-710 1/2hp motor. I plan on restoring it like the Delta 17-600 drill press I did. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411585

Congrats on a steal deal; that's a great homeowner bandsaw. That would be asking $250 minimum here.

The motor lives on to spin another 75 years.
I replaced both bearings and the start capacitor. Once I cleaned out the centrifugal switch she spun to life on her own.
Phase one complete.

Those Delta 14" band saws typically go for upwards of $3-400+ on Long Island Craigslist. I passed on one for $150 at a tag sale in Portland about 2 years ago and still pissed at myself. A great find!

That's a great deal on a great saw that should last several generations to come. The nice thing about those saws is how little changed throughout the years, my saw is ~15 years old and more than half the parts are interchangeable with yours.

Unless it has been abused, the only thing it will need is some new tires and maybe guide blocks. $80 is a "you ****" price !

Get a miter gauge and a way to set up a fence. They will be useful in the future.

I would seriously consider making a slow speed pulley set up so it can cut metal.

Delta made a version with a reduction geabox for exactly that. I think it is about 15:1 ratio. The Wood-Metal model also has stepped pulleys for other speeds in both ranges. I sold this one a few years ago, and in the process of restoring another one.
