Wrench guy if you get a chance to pick it up they are pretty sought after by Parker collectors. Mostly only the stationary base ones show up. a lot of those show up have been broken or repaired from the years of abuse.

Not 4 sale, been there 40 years the ol'timer told me. thanks 4 the info.

Trick Photography: her holding it out like that makes it look much bigger than it is. Same way they did the Hobbits and the Dwarf in LOTR

That was my secret weapon for off shore tuna pics. I could get a twenty five pounder to look like forty.
I just had second breakfast btw.

Someone is selling this one on CL, no info in the add regarding make/model/size.

Any insight on what it might be, and if so what’s it worth? ... at a glance I thought it was a blacksmith vice.

Thank you all! I still want to identify the vise. In Russia, nowhere else have not seen such. These are my fifth. And these my real garage Vice, width-250 mm, machine Vice, model 7200-0225-01. Big monster. Very comfortable vise for work.

Outlaw, how did your hunting trip go?

All Hunting trips are great by definition (getting a deer is just a bonus!). In this case Bambi is alive and well and chasing does. In this case I should have had a bear tag - I saw two and the first one I inadvertently treed one! :lol_hitti

But we had a great tine and we experimented with a Swedish fire log 4 nights. pretty cool! Very easy and low maintenance!:thumbup::thumbup:

Anyone in Bakersfield / Los Angeles area driving through Texas with a truck that would like to deliver a medium size lathe for $$$? Thought I would ask just in case.

I’ve been on a Stanley hot streak lately. The two 746’s are pretty big for clamp on vises. The pumpkin spice 743 has my favorite color scheme.5b504a7b211faa012e4215984dc2d718.jpg2b112ceae75de98fbf65f1c16e8d8b8a.jpg

German super vise's little brother just showed up for 80 bucks in the other side of the country. 21 cm jaws, 8.26 inches. "No shipping".
On another note, found a VS2 near Leipzig, so while the Vise is 20 bucks, gas will cost the same..

Ideal for x-mas is this cig.. errr candle lighter :)

It did every one we did. we started right after dark and cooked and ate dinner, and still going when everyone was crapping out. I was impressed!

Hello guys. I feel like I know many of you since I have read so many of your post. I have read hundreds of these pages and was inspired to restore a nice bench vise. I recorded mine on YouTube if anyone is interested. It is a Parker 372 with the pivoting rear jaw. It turned out great in my opinion. I used an automotive paint and it seems very durable so far. I see some of you live in Indiana too, I live in Southwestern Indiana....little town called Graysville. Check it out if you like. I cannot post a link since I have not posted enough. If you go to YouTube and do a search with the following: M7 Metal Works Parker 372

Just picked up a nice Morgan 30. The model 30 is much smaller than the other Morgan vises. The handle has a groove in the center with a set screw to lock it in the middle.

Anyone tried freezeplugs for the tail end of a Wilton vise? I have three tradesman vises (2x1750, 1x 1760) without a cap and if I can find a cheap solution that would be nice.

Yes!
Naturally they are not domed like the factory end caps but they certainly work and to me look better than just leaving the end wide open. Plus they’re cheap! Like 1-2 dollars.

Freeze plugs come in lots of different sizes so you might want to take the vise to the car parts store for a match up. A sixteenth of an inch makes a huge difference.

Hi guys, new here...

I just lucked upon this 3.5" Wilton cadet vise at an auction ($30) and started to take it apart to strip and repaint. Key was stamped 12/57 and the model is a 9135. In excellent condition other than appearance.

After I wiped off most of the gray rattle-can spray paint with brake cleaner the orange started coming through and now it has a nice patina. I have a few Wiltons but never knew they came in orange before.

I think I'll just give it a shot of matte clear-coat and let it be.

Anyways, my question is..., is this vise rare at all? I didn't see any 3.5" cadet vises on E-bay to compare with and all the other cadets were 4" Schiller ones while this one is a Chicago... Is there a production data set for Wilton vises that show how many were made year by year?

I had planned on putting it down in the tractor shed but if it's sorta rare then I might re-think it but I'll probably still put it down there.

Nothing quite feels like an old Wilton...

I involuntarily shiver when I walk past some of the vises in the hardware stores that they now slap the Wilton name on. What a shame...

Such a great site, not sure if I'm happy or sad in finding it as I foresee a lot of wasted hours ahead that I don't have just looking at vises and tools that I don't have.

Hope the picture comes through, still trying to figure out this site...

Chop, welcome to GJ. That's a nice wilton. From the picture it looks like the orange is on top of the gray. I think I remember someone else posting a cadet in orange as well. The only rare cadet I have seen is the red colored BluePoint one of the other members has. It's a real beauty. It has a yellow decal behind the anvil area. If you have that it would really be something!

Hi Wonderful,

Regarding the orange paint, I thought the same thing at first when I started to strip it down. Never seen an orange Wilton before so that's why I stopped and took a closer look.

The orange paint seems to be the original color and my first ever post on here was to the guys over at the vise info thread and they confirmed it came that way.

I was asking the same questions I am now but they kindly let me know I was asking on the wrong thread and I should ask here.

I should clarify that I'm more interested in the history that anyone has to share about this vise rather than what's it worth.

Though if it's worth something please send me a PM with a huge offer. My girlfriend shakes her head (with a big sigh) when she sees me bring another vise home.

If you PM me with an offer for $2500 (or more) it might buy me a months reprieve. =)

Cheers..

So I posted this Peddinghaus Record vise wiper thing a few days ago. Kinda bought it for 25 bucks. Dunno why. Guess one of the "american looking square boxes" need to be in the collection. But with a twist: all steel.

This is one of the first generation ones, without screws to adjust play in the dynamic jaw. Even has the swivel base and the seller said the family got it from the Wehrmacht barracks right after the war. (which were close by, later used by the russians). Has a few nicks and dents, but nothing major.

The wipers might have been rope from the factory but I also saw some pictures of metallic wipers. Or maybe the metal part has broken of and the 'oiler' rope is what is left. I haven't looked at mine at daylight yet. So only photos of the classified ad. It's 5" (gotta check), so it fits nicely with my Heuer Primus D.R.P. and vintage Front :)
Update: checked and on the back there seems to be an oiler/wiper rope beneath the metal thingi, so I guess it broke same day in the past on the front and only the rope remains. Still a neat idea with that wiper, though they discontinued that later, maybe didn't turn out practical?

Tomorrow I am gonna drop this at work, because then there is a Zeus VS4 locally and a VS2 remotely to fetch and maybe the seller there even has a HS for me, we'll see. When over there I could theoretically get this Barrel (System Koch) vise for just 15 € but this sucker is 6" and weights like 50 kg, so no, thanks.
Will try to take pictures over the weekend and then put everything away, because winter is coming. :/

Some have "domed" the freeze plug with some heavy handed persuasion...

Dziś dołączyłem do 'Klubu Bison-Bial S.A. Vise'!

Translation: Today I joined the 'Bison-Bial S.A. Vise Club'! :)

As I was saying in the 2019 Garage Sale thread earlier this morning, I had no idea what this was when I saw it at the flea market and neither did the seller. It looked European, but the decal in English was throwing me, and the markings on the jaw were obscured by grime and rust. But it was undoubtedly stout, I loved the look, the squat, low-slung profile, the dovetail ways and slide (which passed the one finger test like butter even though it was obviously rusty and needed grease), the fact that the rear jaw is the dynamic jaw, and little elegant engineering design details - like tucking the spindle handle for the swivel base into the corner of the overhang between the body and the base.
