In the last two days I found an antique handheld amperes gauge...

...a scotch flax water bag...

...and a little cigarette lighter light in its own leatherette pouch for the glove box...

...at three different flea markets!

Today I suddenly realized that they were, inadvertently, all vintage automobile paraphernalia.

That made me wonder about all the other odds and ends that were part of the golden oldies age of early car culture.

So, this is not about tools, per se, but meant to celebrate all the miscellaneous accessories.

Whether it's a whistle or a tire patch kit, Brass Era or Muscle, show us more of the functional accoutrements that people used to famously keep in or on their car!

Nifty! When was that made?

General Motors Parts Division
Love me some NOS!

...a couple tire pressure gauges...
Nice.

A quick plea...

... to my fellow wartime Willys jeep peeps out there who I hope will follow my lead in resisting the urge to carpet bomb this thread with WWII Spare Parts & Accessories kits (military jacks, TPG's, tire pumps, etc), because I'd like to keep it civilian, mainly, as much as possible. :)

Here are a few of my Schrader TPG's. These are civilian. Same rating as the Ordnance Dept version. 10-60, 60-160 lbs. And some NOS valve cores.

Staying with tires... and fires, apparently!...I'll keep this early new thread momentum going here with this interesting fire extinguisher that doubles as an emergency tire inflator. Photos don't capture it, but there is a provision for mounting it in a truck cab on the back. 8 lbs 1 oz.

It was the logo on the label that caught my eye at a flea market a few years ago, which looks 60's to me.

attachment.php

But the address (Buffalo 2, N.Y.) is pre-Zip Code, the date on the cylinder is March 1948, and my research reveals that Power-Pak Products was indeed making these in the late 40's and 50's.

Not sure when the trouble light was made. 40's?? Looks military, possibly aeronautical. I found it at a swap meet 7 years ago, never seen one before or since.

Here's an old Anthes road flare kit. I had to repaint the case, but the wicks have never been lit. I suspect that goes for most of these that are still around.

I have various things around here, but not many that have been photographed. I do have a ton of paper: shop manuals, parts manuals, brochures, etc. for all my old vehicles (a 1961 Pontiac Bonneville, 1966 Ford pickup, and a dozen old motorcycles) but in addition I have other things like enough Motors Manuals to cover repairs on most US cars back to the 1930s.

Last year at a yard sale I bought this Ford parts manual, it covers vehicles from 1928 to 1947. Need to know the part number for a fender for your '32 three window coupe? I can help you out. :)

Here are a couple of Schrader tire gauges. The chrome has worn off the short one but I like the "warm" feeling of the brass. I use it all the time.

SchraderGauges.jpg

Leaper.jpg

This is the 8-inch "Leaper" hood ornament from my Dad's 1962 Jaguar Mk2 sedan. It was a 2.2 liter body with a 3.4 liter engine and he was never second off the line at a stop light! My brothers and I loved the acceleration pressing us into the leather seats in the back. We owned it when we lived in Singapore in the mid-70s. I wanted him to bring it back to the States for me to drive in my senior year in HS, but it had neither safety glass nor a heater and we were moving to Indiana. I suspect he was more than relieved to use those excuses vs. tossing the keys to a powerful car to a novice driver... Anyway, Singapore had just instituted a very large annual tax on vehicles with engine displacement over 3.0 liters and therefore no one wanted to buy it. He ended up donating it to Singapore Boys Town -- but I got out there with a wrench and removed the leaper before they came to tow it away. It's been sitting on my desk for the last 44 years.

I did, finally, get the last laugh!

Emergency ignition, 6 volt. I've had this for at least 30 years, why I don't know. :headscrat

That brass tire gauge never did have chrome on it. I have several just like it.

Hmmm. I'm no expert, and the photo doesn't show it very well, but there's worn silver colored haze just below the collar that I thought must be the remnants of the chrome plating.

Compact "Bog" socket set. Made in Chicago. Lid slides on to close. Another swap-meet find.
Some old sets are shown in this catalogue.
Hey Harley Jim, looks like your set went for a whopping 39 cents.

The bodies of Schrader, Syracuse, and Druge Bros Tire Pressure Guages can be commonly found as brass or nickeled-brass in this era. I'm away, on phone, but I can expound a little more next week if needed. I've done some research on this topic for a book on Willys MB toolkits I had a hand in.

Nice self-contained sets! You can find other examples, including some of mine, in the Bog, Indestro, and Auto kit type wrench set threads if you're interested in seeing others.

Who's got a vintage map holder for the visor? (You guys remember folding paper maps, right? :)) Who's got a vintage civilian FAK?

I keep road maps appropriate to the years of my old cars in their glove boxes. They're interesting to look at compared to today, with no Interstate freeways on them.

I found a few items appropriate to the thread. The first two pictures are of my Klein bag. Next is my new in package curb feelers. The fourth picture is replacement flints for welding strikers. The fifth is an old Craftsman sharpening stone. The last two are my Hastings Filter clock.
