I was hanging out with my wife in the garage yesterday, keeping her company while she painted her canvases. Just then, I had remembered how my Dewalt bit driver and hammer drill are on their way out. I also remembered how I've been wanting to get the Milwaukee 1/2" FUEL impact. So, after about an hour of online shopping, I ended up with:

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" high tq. impact
Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" hammer drill
Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/4" hex impact driver
Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3/8" ratchet
(2) Milwaukee 18v 4.0 AH batteries
(2) Milwaukee 12v 4.0 AH batteries
Milwaukee 12v/18v charger

All for around $700. I've been wanting to make the switch for quite some time now, but apparently I decided to make the move last night. I hope I like everything, I've heard nothing but good opinions on Milwaukee's power tools.

I know what you mean.

I once got hammered and bought a 6' Klingon Bat'leth Sword on EBay. It does look cool in my Basement. Plus, if I ever get a home intruder, he's in trouble.

EBay, beer, and 2AM do not mix sometimes.:D

I try to do my part in the community around here. I'm glad you liked my contribution. It sounds like my efforts didn't go unnoticed!

That is HILARIOUS! This was at 6 pm yesterday. Oops. I just kept mine justified by telling her that we can use them at home. LOL

I think I might have to look up one of those swords now. :lol_hitti

I dont have have to be drinking if I'm on Ebay late at night I'm absolutely guaranteed to buy something I really dont need. My watch list is full of things that make me go WTF when I look at it during normal hours! Haha

I've got a buddy who bought a $3800 table saw while drunk one night. He was really confused when the freight truck showed up at his shop the following week. It's a nice saw though.

I did something similar over the weekend.... I stripped a torx bolt Saturday on my VW using the set of cheap torx sockets I have. I bought this set 5 years ago from Amazon when I was in college and I think it was Neiko/Capri or one of the other Taiwanese brands that come in a blue case. It's been a good set but they don't fit as snugly in the fasteners as other brands I've used, and they have deformed a few fasteners before.

Anyway.. Stripping this bolt really put a damper on the rest of the day since I can't get a drill into this tight space to remove it. So after a few drinks and still feeling annoyed at this stripped bolt I ordered a set of VIM torx sockets, Bondhus extended allen sockets, 2 sets of vampliers, Mayhew pick/hook set, and a Sunex 3 master impact socket set. Sanity kicked back in just before I placed an order for a Milwaukee 3/8 stubby impact!

I knew a guy who bought a first gen ('65ish) Mustang off Craigslist. He bought it off a college kid. Drove to San Marcos from Austin to pick it up. Turns out it had a straight 6 instead of the advertised 289. A couple other things didn't line up. Still bought it a nice reduced price.

It wasn't what he wanted and a week later he got really smashed and bought one with a 289 on eBay. When he woke up he had to check to see if he really did place a bid on it. He was drinking at the record store I used to hang out at when he told me the story.

Wow! It sure is nice to hear that I'm not the only one. Haha

I couldn't imagine buying a VEHICLE online and waking up the next morning! :Violent:

Obviously it could ALWAYS be worse. In the end, I'm pretty excited because I've wanted the impact and ratchet for a pretty long time now. I still don't have buyers remorse!

I do want one of those swords though...

He told me that story and I was skeptical. Then a friend said, "Yeah, he really did buy two Mustangs in a week." Funny as hell.

That's funny, I have a VW GTI, and know all about the XZN Triple Squares. In fact, I may even have the same blue-boxed Neiko set you have. I watched a random video by the Humble Mechanic on YouTube (required reading for any GTI owner) and saw him hawking the stubby VIMs. I have a set of stubby GearWrench Torx, but was really interested in the VIM Triple Squares... the ones he linked to were no longer available, but I did find a 6 piece 1/4 stubby set that was sold by VIM on a rail as opposed to a box.

No cool drinking stories to go along with my purchase, but as a fellow VW owner, I thought I'd throw that out there to maybe add to your Amazon cart to pull the trigger after a few too many Pumkings. (and btw, I can also recommend some really cool tool-handled bottle openers to go with that VIM XZN set, as well)

XZN is next on my list! I remember stripping a coolant line bracket bolt that was a triple square because the tool wasn't fully seated. The splines were shredded so I ended up drilling out the bolt. Ever since then I've always triple checked that the tool is fully seated before I start putting force on it.

I still have my Passat but my daily driver is now a BMW 340i and they don't use triple square as much as VW, but there are a lot more external torx. I don't remember a single external torx on my VW, but plenty of regular torx and triple square. Fortunately I haven't had to wrench on the BMW much. The only BMW I'm working on now is an E30 325 that's 30 years old! I'm hoping to pick up some Milwaukee impact tools over black friday since the E30 is loaded with rusty bolts. The 3/8 stubby will likely be the work horse of this project.

That's funny - I own a 135i as well. That car is a garage queen and the MKV GTI is the daily. BMW loves Torx, and VAG seems to love XZNs with Torx as its side chick. Btw, I've found that my BMW eats ABS wheel speed sensors. I have an Autel MX808, and have diagnosed 3 bad wheel sensors in a little over one year on a car with 10K miles on it! I just bought an extra one for the front, since I may as well just change all 4 of them out. Btw, if you buy those parts at FCP Euro, they offer lifetime warranties on all of the parts they sell. So, just an FYI if you have a particularly troublesome part in your Passate or 325/340i.

I don’t even need to be drinking to do things like that.
It has become a joke or sorts, every time my girlfriend is away for a weekend I seem to buy another car....or two.
I tell her that it’s her fault for leaving me unattended (bored)
