I bought an HF blast cabinet some time ago and did basically all the upgrades touted on youtube, lighting, media pickup from bottom of hopper, glass, dust extraction, footpedal. The only thing I stuck with is the HF gun.

I couldn't see how the aftermarket guns could be substantially better, it's only basically a simple carburettor.

However, maybe they CAN be better, I often wonder if I could get faster results.

anyone upgraded to the Skat C35M or other aftermarket gun? Was it REALLY better?

I have an 18cfm @175psi compressor

thanks all!

I installed a Skat gun on one of my HF cabinets 5+ yrs ago. The only issue I had was the gun's ID didn't fit the HF nozzles so I had to ream it very slightly larger . I did this because I had so many HF nozzles...

Edit : I don't recall if it's noticeably better. I think I just wore out the HF gun.

Guys, the comment Steve_p made "I don't recall if it's noticeably better." is what I am concerned about. These things are just a super simple carb. You blow air across an orifice and it creates suction, up comes the media and out it goes under the air pressure.

Seems like it would be hard to get it wrong, even for HF.

I really wonder are the skat guns better, or do people just think they're better 'cos it's nicer made?

I bought a replacement online for my HFT benchtop blaster, it wasn't very-expensive, and it works better than the OEM gun that was w/the unit when it was gifted to me. I think it was around $20. If you haven't read/watched the youtube videos about mods to the HFT cabinets, do it, you will see some mods which make it a better unit. A really-easy one is to drill the venturi tube for more pick-up holes for the media, in the sides of the tube. There are tips for sealing it upon assembly, lighting mods, and more.

I used the TP tools gun kit in mine and it’s night and day difference between it and the original gun setup. I even put the carbide nozzle on it and I highly recommend it.

Same here, Skat gun and carbide nozzle. It is money well spent and the wear part of the gun (front end) that can eventually wear if you are not periodically changing the air jet is easily replaced.

Guys, as I mentioned in the first post i've done all the youtube mods and I have a footpedal.

My only concern is that most people seem to have done a siphon tube and gun update at the same time, so was it the tube or the gun that made the difference?
I don't have a siphon tube, I updated to the under cabinet metering valve.

Anyone literally JUST compared their setup - at whatever stock or modified stage that may be - with the old gun and the skat gun back to back?

thanks!

Both. The stock siphon tube is much smaller than the TP siphon tube in their upgrade kit. While the guns are similar with the larger siphon tube you need a gun with a larger siphon inlet and the TP gun has that as well, also the finish build quality of the USA made gun is better than that of the HF gun.
