Came across this vise and am trying to find more information on it. Someone told me it was made in China. I believe the width it 5-6”, and weighs approximately 40-50lbs. Any information would be appreciated.

I have one.
Wilton had or has parts to fit it.
No COO that I could find on it.

My handle is purposely retapped to that side.

A few years ago Wilton switched the name on it from Columbian to Wilton. Same exact vise as far as I know. Chinese. Guessing it was part of the Columbian phase out.

How hard was it drilling and tapping that material?

The body is cast iron? The kid and I doing QT in his shop, he had no problems.
After thinking heli-coils and rejecting cleaning weld from an interior machined surface as well. An epoxy fills the stripped threads, along with the Hammered paint it holds up outside with Boeshield T-9 and a grill cover. Sturdy as all hell, Chinese produced or not.

Incidentally, to the original poster. Is the circled area damaged?
