Looks like a nice old vise and with that design sort of looks like the Wilton Bullets that their owner stole (or borrowed since WWII was starting) the patent from York in Czechoslovakia.

do you know any history on it from the person you bought it from or did you inherit it?

i'm curious too so i'm here to learn myself.

No info about it (haven't bought it yet), so was just wondering what it might be :)

MAWRICK: since I don't know how rare a European or Scandinavian vice is I can tell you that the vice you posted is not common here. it's also pretty old and guessing maybe WWI era, but definitely before WWII.

those feet on that vice tend to break off easier so finding a vice that old with their feet in tack is a good thing. it looks like maybe there is welding spatter on top of the jaws, but doesn't look like any actual welds so take a close look at that.

if I had the cash in my pocket and the seller mentioned a number I could live with I'd take it home even if it was only going to sit on a shelf if that helps you.

besides checking for welds and cracks turn the vice's screw in and out and even take out the dynamic jaw all the way so you can inspect the screw and vise nut and insides.

Like I mentioned to me being on the west coast of USA it's a rare vice (vise), but you might see more in your area. if you need a vice it looks like a good one and if you'd like to post jaw width and weight it might help others let you know what it is. or do you know those measurements?

good luck!!

Thanks for the reply will see what it'l be, the vice isn't local, so hard to check the state of it and shipment might be troublesome.

Not really sure what would be an "ok" price to buy sich a vice for.

Turned up a "newer" Victor vice localy and picked that one up for "cheap".

Any idea where the "victor" vices are from ? (it says "Victor" on one side, and "4" on the other side)

Usually vises with big #’s are Asian imports and not high quality. I agree it’s hard to spend good money plus shipping on an unknown but that old vise wasn’t common and might last another 100 years.

Don’t use your new vise as a press or beat on it or use a cheater bar in the handle and it might last you many many years. Can you post pics?

There is a picture of it in the post above, but take a few more today - even came with a "bonney" screwdriver has handle - must have been forced in there, will try to get it out again in one piece and make a proper handle for it - it's got a "small" damage on the stand, but doesn't seem to do to much....:)

MAW: yep i'm guessing an older Asian imported vice. that crack is actually because a former owner/user banged on it pretty hard and busted off the cast shelf that is missing. the shelf gives your vice support when the jaw is open more than few inches. i might work for light duty until you can find another better vice.

if you find a LEINEN (made in Germany), Bison (made in Poland) or a Parkinson or Record or Paramo those are just a few of the brands that might have ended up in Norway. I can't say I know of a Norwegian made vice, but their are a few Swedish made ones so see what you can find. here's a picture of a bison

that old vice you started the thread with looked like a good one, but yep shipping and maybe sending cash to someone you don't know isn't always the best way to find a good vice.

good luck!!
