My Fleet ratchet.

I picked this up at a pawn shop for $3. Though is says "Fleet" research tells me that Proto and Penens could be involved somehow. Anyway, it cleaned up nicely and the innards are smooth with no sign of wear or slop in the movement. It's a heavy ratchet and seems quite sturdy.

Nice ratchet! Your assumption is correct - this was a part of the Proto empire and marketed under several brand names owned by them - Proto, Penens, Fleet, and (I think) Challenger, and one other name which escapes me at this moment. Edit: I remembered the brand I was thinking of, though I have no idea who they were made for. These ratchets are also branded "Tru-test".

A thought just came to me. Are there any P&C branded ratchets this style?

I have that same ratchet, a set of sockets and a handful of various Fleet branded tools.

It seems like some folks think of Fleet as the Rodney Dangerfield of tools.

Back in the 70s Fleet socket sets were sold by Kmart. I had a set when I got out of high school
