That seems to be what the posted I responded to did say. Maybe the terminology is unclear. Most understood it as MWBC.

NO, the EGC is a completely different thing. The neutral is typically connected to ground at the panel but is NOT a "grounded conductor". We have to make certain no current flows in the EGC or it may not protect life in the event of a fault.

A grounded conductor is not the same as an equipment grounding conductor.

A neutral is the intentionally grounded circuit conductor intended to carry current of the circuit.
neutral = grounded conductor

An EGC is also an intentionally grounded conductor. It however, does not carry circuit current and is present only to provide a low impedance fault path to ensure rapid fault clearing time.

Look up both definitions in NEC. read article 200 and 250 for contrast.

Sure, any sinusoidal wave forms that have the same frequency and maintain a phase shift are different phases.

The original 2 phase systems had a 90 phase shift. It is still recent enough that confusion results based upon its prior configuration. Using the term split phase easily conveys the 180 phase shift obtained from one center tapped winding.
Generally, today when reference is made to 2 phases, it is used in the context of 2 out 3 the phase conductors found in a 3 phase system. A split phase secondary transformer is referred to as single phase xformer. You won't find a 2 phase xformer today.

I know Electrical Engineers and they don't call it 2 phase. I've NEVER seen a set of plans with the term 2 phase. (after 45+ years)

I disagree, so it's probably best to "agree to disagree" and you are entitled to your opinion.

The EGC is NOT the neutral, per NEC.

Nobody here claimed it was.
Read again CAREFULLY
The EGC is a GROUNDING conductor
The NEUTRAL is the GROUNDED conductor.
See the difference? :lol_hitti

If a set of blueprints was submitted through plan check with 2phase, it would be rejected immediately

I did not say I was not going to post any more, I said was not going to debate your opinions. Two very different things.

Some people want to learn, some don't, and I don't find it productive to help those who are not interested in learning.

I take your point, perhaps it would have been more clear to say "permitted only for specific defined applications" rather than "not permitted, in general"

Interesting, thanks for the history, have not really worked with the older technologies.

But I still think you are not understanding AlfredN. Grounded vs grounding are 2 very different terminologies and something drilled into our head back in apprenticeship school. The “Ed” vs “ing” is where you are missing the difference. As other posters said a grounded conductor is the neutral (white or gray) and grounding is better known as equipment grounding conductor (green). Not anybodies opinion, just the NEC definition.
