I have bought some of Drillhog's sawzall blades and they say "made in the USA" on them. I've only used them once but they seem to be sharp.

also I bought but have not used is there number set, it says "made in the USA" on the case, so not sure if that means the case is made in the USA or the drill bits

That means the case is USA-made. What is stamped on the drill bits themselves?

Cobalt is long lasting but you'll want a diamond wheel to sharpen them when the time comes, and they are very brittle. Not the best for hand-held drilling. And even in the lathe I've had jobber length cobalt drill bits shatter on me.

That's false. Cobalt is added to regular HSS. They can be sharpened with a regular wheel. They shine for stainless. Unless you're talking about Carbide?

I think most "black" drill bits are made from M2 HSS.

Where I work we use a lot of Guhring and Hartland drills. I’ve personally met Mike Polizzi the president of Hartland and can verify they are USA made.

I think i read somewhere they are rebadged Norseman. I can't say for sure, though i think i recall seeing product numbers and such being so similar that it made sense, and i think they may have listed the same business address.

Need diamond wheels or CBN wheels (almost as expensive) for cobalt, otherwise just glazes the wheel.

no you don't. been in the machining field for 30 years, sharpened way too many cobalt drills with standard wheels to even count. also, have NEVER seen a DrillHog (nice gimmick name though) branded drill in a machine shop. The Big 3 for guys that drill metal for a living are Cleveland Twist, Geurig, & Precision Twist.

My go-to for standard drills is usually Cleveland Twist Drill from MSC. The bulk of our work is 304/316, N50, Inconel, etc. and they have been a reliable choice. I've never heard of Norseman outside of GJ. I personally wouldn't be interested in drills that market to hardware stores.

Montana brand is actually on store shelves in Menard's for what it is worth. Lowe's carried Cle-Line for a bit too. Never seen any other American drill bits on shelves though. It was hilarious seeing a $60 29-piece drill bit set in a home improvement center.

I think they still stock that 29-piece DeWalt made in Germany set for $60 too. Don't know the actual manufacturer.

Also yeah, Huot is the drill case manufacturer based up in St. Paul.

Incorrect. Why state something in a way that makes it seems like you are sure of what you are saying. You are incorrect. CBN will sharpen carbide. Almost anything will sharpen cobalt hss bits.

I am going to need more proof than a 3rd hand Internet rumor before I stop buying from them !

Dude, WTF? You continuously shill for them as US made. Why? Where is proof they mfg in the US? You are completely backwards with your logic. We don't need to prove they do mfg in the US, they do. And they don't .

Do they stamp any drill bits above 1/4" with USA?? Norseman does. I'm not sure the size cutoff but Norseman marks USA on the sizes bigger than tiny. so please put up evidence on Drill Hog making bits in USA. Post proof.
