Reports say that it is, and people have reported happily spending $80 to upgrade the 779 with the lighting. But I have a hard time believing that Dewalt justifies the increased price for the light only. I would be interested to compare a BOM to see if other specs have changed

I looked on a few sites that compared and that was the biggest difference they could find thou I see the newer one is lighter to.

I've got a awesome BIL and he snapped this up for me.

Yesterday had Lowes priced match HD $350 price yesterday for me and was able to get the DWS780 and DEWALT Aluminum Adjustable Miter Saw Stand (4267) for about $380 out the door. Picked it up today.
