Flexvolt on 20V / 18V Max tools

i got a free 6ah Dewalt Flexvolt battery recently as part of a Dewalt offer but i have only the 20V Max type tools. I have seen some Youtube videos where guys are saying to never use these with normal Dewalt tools or they will burn out the motors, but i have not seen much also on forums about this.

It would be great to use this battery but i don't fancy burning out my existing tools ! Have any of you guys had problems using Flexvolt batteries like this ??

I don't know for sure but my understanding is the flex volt tools have a tab that acts as a mechanical switch to make the batteries 60v, otherwise they are 20v.

No. They designes the batteries to work with both 20v or 60v tools. They have two ah ratings on them. For example, on is rated at 20v (6ah) or at 60v (2ah). Some 20v tools may perform better because the FV bats use better cells, but nothing will be burning up...unless it's the one impact from them that is known to (doesn't matter the battery on it)

Did you read the comments for that video?
I have been using my flexvolt batteries regularly for over a year now in various 20V tools without any issues at all. I wouldn't worry about it...

Flex volt batteries work fine on 20v tools. That is literally the point of FLEX volt

20v batteries do not work on flexvolt tools

Other than adding a lot of weight to the tool, they work fine. That’s what they are designed to do.
