See a lot of poor and mixed reviews. Anyone have or used one that works better then the rest?

I have a stud finder, but find tapping the sheet rock with my finger is just as good, when you hear the sound of the tap change you have a stud.

I use the CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder. There are some threads here where everyone seem to recommend it and it worked great.

My sister used to be an accomplished "stud finder." Last time I listened to "her stud" he told me he bought an extension cord so he could amuse himself with the female end and threaten his wife with the male end.

I bought a C.H. Hanson Magnetic Stud Finder and it works great.
I gave up un Zircon and Franklin. Both were pieces of ****.

I've used a random magnet before. Of course, this assumes the last guy hit the middle of the stud & pulled out all of his missed screws.

I've given up on them after four or five failed to work. Went back to tapping and listening. That is 100% reliable.
I picked up the Studpop. Didn't even know it existed. Small and needs no batteries so I can keep it in my tool bag. The magnet is strong enough it sticks to the wall. Was able to locate and mark studs 16" on center and was able to lag a TV mount to a wall. Worked well enough.
With that said though; I can see the appeal and draw to an edge finder. Will get one if I ever feel the need for one.

Pretty amazing how well that simple cheapie StudPop works, huh? I bought it on a whim and was kind of blown away when I tried it.
If you're worried about edge finding, at least it gives you a solid reference to use for the Franklin or similar.

My house was built in 1950, the walls are 3/8" drywall, then mortar and then plaster. Magnetic ones don't work, the nails are too far below the surface. Zircons don't even work as well as guessing. The Franklin sensor works perfectly.

This is what I have and it works great.
I also have a Stanley one that was given to me that has a screen on it that shows an arrow for the edge of the stud and will show where electrical wires are

Have this and it has put all the frustration of finding studs to rest. Certain areas of my house have button board plaster that's too thick, in which case I use the Hanson magnetic finder.
