has anyone here performed a wheel balancer calibration?

I have coats 1050 wheel balancer and I need to do calibration

instructions say I need a 4oz clip on weight but I don't have one the largest i have is 2oz



my local parts places can order in for me buy I have to buy full box for 46 bucks



i was wondering if i can do the calibrations with 2x 2oz clip ons side by side.

As long as you get the seam where the two weights meet lined up on the spot of the rim where the center of a single weight will be you should be fine. The only issue that might come up is if the two 2ounce weights are longer than a single 4ounce weight then it might throw the calibration off.

When done take a wheel and tire assembly mark it’s location on the spindle and balance it, then turn the assembly 180* and spin it again. If your calibration is good it should still read balanced if it says to add weight then your calibration didn’t work.

Why not just go to a local tire store ??? I am sure they would sell you a single weight.

Do you have 4oz of adhesive weights?

It's be harder for me to find that tire size than 4oz of weights

Hey JSS, I have been servicing Coats balancers for the last quarter century and occasionally would forget my cal weight too. You'll be fine with two 2 oz weights. The important thing is too make sure you have clearly identified top dead center and make sure the weights join at that point. If you PM me I will send you a 4 oz "official Coats" calibration weight.

no one carries that large size local shops can order me full box of 25 units but no need for that.

use to check my machine all the time it was rare to be out and even more rare for comeback problem unless the other guys screwed up the job .

True mine had never been done since I bought it plus I converted the shaft from 28mm to 40mm so now I think it’s safe to say it needs it

I ended up contacting coat directly and had a dealer ship me one for free. I tried to contact jeftec1 to take him up on his offer but I never heard back from him.
