looks finished now, agree with you i dislike painting.

It got less painful as I went. I ended up painting the welding table as well.

Long Post Alert!

It’s been a crazy 3 wks around here. I started getting jobs as soon as I finished my walls and have not gotten to planning my ceiling out yet.

I welded up some aluminum brackets and a steel frame for a friends camper van bench.

I made a custom fixture to make a fitting for a Transam Depot restomod.

Quoted a guy to weld up his cracked 1970 TJ fenders. Quoted another friend on a custom bike rack. Quoted a different guy to make some light bar brackets.

Then went on a mountain biking vacation to Moab, UT with my Wife, youngest Boy, and new bike!

Upon returning I jumped back into work.

I made the bike rack first.

Then moved onto the lightbar brackets.

I’ll take more pics of the brackets before I weld up the pieces tomorrow.

While working to clear my floor in preparation for putting in my ceiling, I built a cathouse and scrap cart to make use of some of the material I’ve been sitting on.

Thanks! The ceiling isn’t quite as easy as I had hoped. Lining each panel up straight while it’s trying to fall on your head is challenging. Oh well, still easier than drywall.

Thank you! I’d love to get some graphics for my car and maybe the door. Do you have a vinyl cutter or can you print?

Re: 26'x28' Detached Shop Buildout. FINALLY!

I had to insulate the storage area before continuing with the ceiling panels. Now I’m considering putting a light or two up there as I can now see it will be very dark once the ceiling is finished.

A little more ceiling progress today. 2 rows/8 panels.

I’m having to work in short bursts as the overhead work is killing my shoulder. I have a chronic right rotator cuff issue as well as overuse injuries in both elbows.

I’m still really glad I’m not doing drywall.

Re: 26'x28' Detached Shop Buildout. FINALLY!

I forgot to post some new tools from last week. I found the saw used for $60 with the original blade still on it. Then I ordered a couple new batteries from eBay.

d44ba9e71e70daa74a2cbadfb43e849b.jpg

I picked up this circle cutting guide last night from Marketplace. $100

Garage ceiling is looking great. I did my ceiling with 140 yr old barn tin so it has a rusty patina which goes with my old garage theme. Have you figured out what you are doing with the attic door? I went to my local restore and picked up an old piece of galvanized ducting and skinned my attic door with it. Looks great and still maintains the tin ceiling look.
BTW Montana is prob one of my most favorite states. Love the views you have looking out your property.

Thanks! We love Montana so far! I plan on using scrap pieces to cover the door once I have the ceiling done. I got 2 more panels up today that I had to cut for lighting. I'll add a picture later.

I was able to put up 10 panels yesterday before my arms gave out. This includes having to drop the opener and reinstall it.

Re: 26'x28' Detached Shop Buildout. FINALLY!

Happy accident today while hanging 8 more panels.

ceec35d803abed2a1796ab313f8add88.jpg

These are just the starting holes I put roughly in the area where I will trim with tin-snips. They just happened to line up and be the correct size. The final hole clears the outlet box. Lol

I’m done with all the lighting and outlet penetrations so the last few panels should go quickly!

You've got some great stuff going on in your shop. As you know I am a big fan of painting the walls, cabinets, etc. Makes for a really nice space. Especially when you spend a lot of time in the shop. Keep up the good work!

I’ve just finished adding a circuit in the attic area so I won’t have to insulate the ceiling in the dark after I close it up. I chose sockets with pull chain and 3-prong outlets in case I ever need power up here.

I also left a loop and a box for a future high mounted exterior light in front of the shop.

Closing in! I got sooooooooo lucky! Keeping the same overlap; I got right within 1/4” of the wall. No cutting! The trim will hide the gap.

You have rigged up a very nice shop space. I wish I was as organized as some of you guys.

Thank you! I’ve been thinking about what my shop would look like for quite some time. I’m very happy with it and I’m sure it will get better with time/useage.

I spent a few hours today pulling down old trim boards from the attic. It became apparent that someone during construction of our house started installing the incorrect trim and had to pull it back out.

I hate this fake crown-molding stuff everywhere in our house do I decided to rip it down into low profile rectangular trim for my shop. It will be painted black and run the entirety of the ceiling as well as finish capping the concrete wall.

There was a lot of it up there.

I was able to get 3 pieces of trim from each. It ripped down into a few different profiles so I will just match the windows to the doors with the now shorter ‘crowney’ bits.

YES!!!!!! Repurposing, now you're speaking my language.

The work surface and the cabinets, torch cart, welding table, small portable welding table, tool cart, and lockers are all repurposed. I’ve also made a few of my tools. I try to strike a balance. I reuse as much material and scrap as I can. The things I buy I try to always find used.

I couldn’t have as nice a shop if I had to buy everything new. Yikes!

New tool day! Yesterday really drove home the fact that my tablesaw *****. I’ve done a lot of work in a short time with that little thing and the time has come for an improvement.

Introducing the Delta!

I found this at a pawn shop last week listed for $375 with a rusty table and a dented sheet metal wing. I talked them down to $300 and straightened out the sheet metal. It still needs a scrub down, and the rust is only surface. No pitting.
