So my 5/20 amp 70 start Schumacher charger is on the fritz. I got a few years out of it, time to replace.
I'm rethinking my requirement. I think a 15 or 20 amp charger with no start assist will suit my needs best. I can start assist with a lithium pack or a set of jumper cables. Maybe something with a little lower amperage rating will be less susceptible to burning out.
Seeing Noco and Ctek etc. Solid state units with smart charging abilities.
Here's my thing - I'll pay if it's worth it. Just want something that I can rely on that won't **** out in 2-3 years like the Schumacher did. It's hot here in AZ so sometimes it's plugged in out there with 110F ambient and the sun beating on it. With 5 sons in the house and cars and boats and camper trailers the thing gets used probably once a week.
Thinking I should be able to make this work for under $150. Thoughts?
(PS this is just flooded lead acid batteries. No Lithium or AGM or such.)
