Got the hood put out back, nice to have things out of the way so I won’t be tripping over it later.

Unloaded all the tools and supplies, gathered up some stuff to go to recycling tomorrow, lifted the OGMC, realized that I don’t have all the brake lines I will need, so may have to push that off another week or so, forgot to order the hoses that go to the wheels and since it is lifted, might have an issue getting them locally. The old ones may come apart, but I really don’t want to reuse them.

Good news is that the lift gets the burb high enough that I actually needed to lower it for a good working height.

Hopefully it will, that hood is toast and is going to the dump, will take off the lights, latches, and emblems, but it has been damaged and stuck back together using bubble gum and duct tape.

You're right, that round stock vice is a work of art.

Original GMC, the burb I bought new in 1999, had to sell it when I hurt my back a few years later, just found it and bought it back this year.

I have had many vices in my life, but I never seen someone have a vise like that... pretty cool looking vise.

I think a picture catalog of all things Strouty is in order, it is hard to keep up with all the names to the different vehicles in your life... er I mean projects.

It does stink when you realize you may not have all the parts you need when starting project. At least you are getting somethings done.

I knew I needed them, I just forgot to order them. Also need new transmission cooler lines and probably should replace the power steering lines too. I am trying to use all stainless steel, this way I won’t have to do it again.

During my inspection of the truck I found some bent brackets on the lift kit, one section of frame has a bent lip from sitting on a rock, I am seriously considering taking it all apart, sandblasting things and putting it all back together, but I probably should look at what a new lift kit would cost, might be cheaper, definitely would be quicker.

It will hold round stock from 10mm to 88mm IIRC, will be a great addition to the mill, holding round stock is always tough, this should make it easy.

That is a cool vise; never seen one like that before.

We looked into upgrading the controller on our CNC knee mill. The 3 quotes we got were 15-20k. This included install and new motors, but even reusing our motors and without install the lowest quote was pushing 10k (Centroid was the lowest quote). We decided it wasn't worth it on a knee mill. Better to get a small new/used vertical milling machine, or at least a bed mill which has far more Z travel and rigidity.

I have heard that from lots of people about it not being worth upgrading a knee mill. I am at least going to get some quotes on parts, I really only need certain parts, I have a friend that has setup some CNC plasma tables and knows quite a bit, he just hasn't done anything with upgrading the encoders on the existing servo motors.

Today is snow, not sure how much yet, looks like we might get 6” tops, really light and fluffy, the kind that when it is dark out makes you feel like you are piloting the millennium falcon into hyper space. When I got to TH today, there is Dad’s chipper sitting in a stupid place, especially considering we are getting snow. Come to find out the employee left it for me to deal with rather than put it away. The excuse was they (Dad and employee) thought the Quonset hut was full, one call to me would have solved that. Seems like everyone is working towards making my life harder. it took me about 45 minutes to get the chipper put away in the Quonset hut, would have taken the employee 20 minutes tops since he was already hooked up and it wasn’t hardly snowing at that point.

Then Dad and I discussed the new Ford F-350 plow, it was decided that I should take it home and I will do the plowing, this leaves the employee without a plow for his house and then he will have to ask to use it or use a snowblower or a shovel. Just the thought of that made me smile, probably won’t happen, but let me have my moment.

There are ways to plow it that would make things worse. Just saying a 9 foot tall bank of packed snow is much harder to shovel than 2 feet on a driveway.

You need to carry a price list for new plows with you in case the leech asks about plowing.

That vise can start a new vice... it's breathtakingly pretty. It was not exactly what I expected when you said pipe vise. All the ones I have seen before were one off machinist made...

The lift area is awesome too.

So plowing out TH and two related tower sites is a three hour job, more depending on how heavy the snow is. Almost done, then I am headed to the SG to plow that out, then back to my house to run the snowblower and shovel. In total, looks like with driving time, it is about 6 to 7 hours of snow removal. I still don’t understand what I am doing in Maine, I hate snow.

It becomes much more doable if you care to learn anything about controls. I have a buddy retrofitting an index cnc right now. Standard 847 Knee mill with ball screws and large steppers. But to pay somebody else to do it, yeah no, its not worth it.

Oh and the employee had to snow blow and shovel, I was giggling inside when I drove by his house.

Just finished up the plowing at the SG, headed back to the house to do my snow blowing, then I have to go back to the office to do more paperwork, have the accountant coming in tomorrow morning, so I need to be ready.

Accountants are expensive... I married one... she's still expensive. Three closets upstairs... all her clothes... mine are relegated to two shelves in the guest bathroom linen closet. And one dresser drawer in the KITCHEN.

I forgot to report that the snowplow burb worked perfectly, so my piece of pipe engages the front axle just fine, no need for the $80 part. I don't think I would do it on a daily driver, but an off road truck or plow, it is perfect.

Spent almost an hour on hold waiting for a salesperson to try and convince me to not cancel a contract, then they tell me that they can't cancel it, I need to write them a letter in order to cancel. At this point I am furious, I have called them more than once, usually get transferred around and now they tell me that the letter I was sent, the one that explicitly stated call this phone number or your contract will automatically renew, so the letter and it appears that the phone number they list is not the proper one. I have several utility accounts and they are all handled by this bumbling company. I can't wait to be done with them, also will save me almost $500 a month in power costs, well not me, but Dad's company.

We have a pleasant 16 degrees here on LI.
So glad my boat got wrapped yesterday.
We have the usual parade of idiots trying to drive. Dropping the kid off at the high school watched a parent just about run over one of the security personal.

Coached varsity hockey last night we had 9 player and a goalie we played a full team, we won 8-2. The coach paid us a great complement he wished he had 3 or 4 of our players his guys just gave him static, while we played hockey.
