Post up your vintage Champion deArment/Channellock tools

I’m aware that there is a Channellock thread in the general tool discussion but it seems to generally focus on more modern Channellock tools. I feel that a vintage Channellock thread would be of interest here. I would propose that the cutoff between vintage and modern would be when Channellocks intoduced the rivet and did away with the older bolt and nut in the groove joint models. Although I have some modern versions in my collection, my focus is on the earlier tools. Here are some pictures of mine. I hope to see yours here too.

Those are nice. I like the early handle pattern. I actually found a pair of Channellocks on Saturday that had the handle pattern. All of my other #420s have smooth handles, even the ones with the 1933 Canadian patent. These may well be my earliest pair.

Thanks, Rubicon. I found this hammer at the Tahoe flea today. It is a Champion deArment with Southern Pacific markings on the opposite side. I’ll post up some of my other hammers as well.

I’ve been looking for one of these for a while since I’d only seen them online. I found these on eBay for a fairly reasonable price recently. I see now why they aren’t more popular. They seem to me like a poor redesign of regular Vise Grips. I guess they are destined to just be a conversation piece.

Nothing special, Don, I just thought I'd add some pics of the markings on the pair of No.420 water pump pliers I picked up at the flea this morning. For reference for others.

As I reported on the Garage Sale thread, these have the PAT. IN CAN. 1933 notice marking, and directly underneath that, they have the U.S. PAT. 1950362 marking. As you know, that was granted March 6, 1934, and the next patent assigned to Champion DeArment wasn't until 1953, so these are the pliers WWII collectors want. The ones with the Canadian patent will also do, of course. Smooth grips. Only the third pair I have ever found in the wild. Nine out of ten times I pick a pair up, I am putting them back down with the 1953 patent.

I was fortunate to run into an interesting fellow at my flea market this morning. He was selling things for a friend, who is the executor of an oldtimer's estate. He only had what he referred to as a smidge of the stuff with him. It included these two Champion DeArment pliers. I am not positive what the type (model No 307) on the top is, but they look like battery terminal pliers to me. Unfortunately, they have been ground down a bit to a wedge on the head. The ignition pliers are Channellock branded, but have the original 1934 tongue-and-groove patent number on the handle (1,950,362).

Some nice Channellock pliers and collections you guys have. I pulled a few pairs out of the box for a pic tonight. Two pair. 410's and 420's. I need to find some with those cool grip patterns. Ed.

Those are nice. The pair with the 1933 Canadian patent marking are fairly rare.

Most of my shots are taken outside on old redwood fence boards with my iPhone. If it’s raining I use my old garage office chair for a background. Not too sophisticated.

I found a well used #420 pair at an estate sale on Saturday. This is my second pair with the Channellock pattern on the handles. I was curious so I checked the 1944 wartime Champion deArment catalog and was able to make out the pattern on the handles of the #420.

I found a pair yesterday and today. Both needed a bit of restoration. The 420 pair was early and had some unique markings. I’m wondering about the significance of the G43 on one handle.

Interesting. I have seen 420's and also 410's without much sway in the handles, but never without the markings.

Dug this out today after recognizing the name from this thread. After a little wipe down with WD-40 it looks pretty good.

That's an interesting logo. I have about a dozen or so Champion-DeArment tools and none of them have that particular logo.

I overpaid for a pair of Channellock adjustables today at a Tahoe garage sale. I had to leave a bunch of other stuff behind.
