Wondering if any of these pics help attribute my humble set to Huot. No evidence of any markings or details to that effect......

I would take pictures of mine to show you there a perfect match but it’s over 300 miles away from me right now on the other end of the state and I don’t know when I’m going to be back home to do it, my money’s on yours being a huot.

Anybody recognize the make of this box? Looks like it is at least from the 80s. Noticed it on my local CL. Appears to have a couple of badges, but the photos are poor. Seller is only asking $100, which seems low to me.

If close by, I'd at least check it out. If the drawers are made from 18Ga. and don't twist when extended......go for it HF or not. If you decided later that you didn't want them, they could be resold individually for $50 each....maybe more.

I would bite if around here.

Galaxie is right. That whole stack didn’t sell for much more than $100 new, and that’s within the last 5 years. Your time to waste, but my time is worth more than what it would take you to go pick it up for free.

Here’s my new one! I finally have one similar to my Gramps! He was an automatic transmission guy in southern Vermont for over 40 years. RIP Buster!

Picked up this old machinists box today full of old tools for 60€. It has some rust but overall it’s not in bad condition, all the drawer slides are perfect and it has the original two keys. Can anyone tell me is this a Kennedy box and what kind of age it would be?

I couldn't tell you if that was made by Kennedy or not, but in any case, it is a damn fine box, filled with damn fine tools at a damn fine price.

Agreed, it's a fine box indeed, and the instruments inside ensure fine value on the purchase. I believe it to be a Park manufactured box.

I agree. A Kennedy with red felt. Nice box. With that earlier center latch it was likely made before the 520 shown in this 1979 catalog. Kennedy boxes don’t change much from year to year.

Very nice. Are you going to pour a couple mm of used ATF in the bottom of each drawer? Then it will be exactly like Gramp's was!

Here is the finished product. It is no where near perfect as the box was pretty beat up when I got it. Also it was finished with wood filler and painted wood grain originally. The wood filler remains in dings and scratches and would not take stain. But it does look much more presentable than it did.

Thanks for the information guys. After taking a closer look at the box the paintwork on the back and the lid is not in great shape. On the back the paint is flaking away altogether. Any tips on what I could do to preserve this without doing a full restoration? Cheers

Here is a small Kennedy carry box I picked up at an estate sale on Friday. Some members have suggested using cork as a liner so I gave it a try.

That's as clean as a whistle! Nice box.

Is the tray original to the box do you think? (This is NOT a passive aggressive jab, just the curiosity of a newer collector!!)

Dated '79 & '80. Bought new by me. Full of mostly old Snappy stuff. Still working out of it everyday. A few dings and bumps, but otherwise in pretty decent shape. I try to take care of my stuff since obviously I've bought it for life.

Maybe have it buried with me as well.

I passed on this Huot stack at the flea market this morning ($150), but I though I'd post the photos for posterity in case it helps with research, ID, etc. Or if anyone really wants it that badly, I could grab it tomorrow.

If you guys are referring to the decals (one on the top box, one on the roller) for the Staten Island dealership this stack came out of, I agree. Those made it very tempting. But the roller and the top box needed a lot of work, I'm not really looking for a stack, I'm not a Huot nut, and he wouldn't take my lowball.

LUG: thanks for sharing and even though i'm a fan of old Huot boxes I probably would have passed on it too and maybe just as much on condition as the price, but even if price was lower there's still a ton of time that old box will need to make it look and work great again.

Mr. X: did you find a picture of Lug negotiating with the flea market guys?

ALL: I was curious to see what would come up with Googling Nelson K. Mintz and here's just one of the pictures. if I knew personally of the dealership and had the time to spiff that old Huot up that might be more interesting AND if I was closer to the box cause shipping probably not cheap. that said i wish the box was in as good of condition as the old sticker for Mintz cause that was made to last. this picture was taken in 1955.

here's to a great albeit cold weekend

I posting my Blackhawk boxes on this post because I can't remember if I put them up in this location before? Anyway apologies if it's redundant. I am enjoying them and using them. Already got some new chips in the paint! That's what they are for!

You can follow the link if you want to see more details of the process of the resto.
