Hi everyone,

I'm looking for lights, led tubes and fixtures, to replace my current fluorescent lights in a attached garage (24x24x9) and also, install in a new garage/workshop (32'x56'x10' with vaulted ceiling) we are going to have built in the next few months.

Other than being a little pricey, does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these lights?
Thanks

Your ceilings are too low for these. Use more lower powered fixtures to spread the light out better. There are hundreds of styles to choose from. For new buildings I wouldn't use tubed fixtures anyway. Look for something around 5000 to 6000 lumens where the light shines outward and a little upward. Something like a surface wrap or a strip fixture. Definitely get frosted lenses.
Choose a style that you like and then we can help you select a good one.
PS: Plus, these are overpriced.

Why are these to low for my ceiling? I can maybe see the 9' ceiling being a little too low, but the 10' vault up to 15'?

Agreed on overpriced- buy lights from a lighting supplier, flooring from a flooring supplier etc.

I agree their pricey.

However, if I can find a better light from elsewhere, then yeah.
I don't want the most expensive out there and I'm not looking for the cheapest either.
I will pay for better than average garage lights.
I've delt with crappy lights for 54 years, I'm in a position now to spend the bucks on decent lighting, maybe not the best, but close. :)

15' would be near the minimum that you should hang these. Highbays are meant to be hung high, so they have a relatively tight beam angle. If you hang them too low, you get too much light in a tight beam onto the floor, which results in pools of light. Your space gets contrasty, too many harsh shadows, not enough wall reflectance to fill in other spaces, and some pretty harsh glare.

Look into Linear Surface mount LED strips like these:

You can find them in several different styles, in lumen packages that range from 3000lm to 8000lm in a 4' section, dimmable, and quite affordable. You could have the same looking fixture in each space, but a different lumen package in the higher ceiling area.

Good luck,

You call the 24x24x9 a garage and the 32'x56'x10' with vaulted ceiling a garage/workshop. Does this mean the 24x24x9 is really just for parking or are you looking for workshop level lighting in there also?

Hi!
The 24x24 will be just parking, 98.3% of the time.

The 32x56 lighting needs to cover a wide range of projects like autos, woodworking, metal working and general maintenance items etc; for these getting older eyes...lol

So far in my lightning search, I haven't found anything surface mounted that I like. I'm fine with exposed tubes.
I don't want any draped wires, visible connecting conduit or fixtures hung from chains.
I will be building boxes to mount the lights on, so they will be parallel to the floor instead of the slope of the ceiling.
