Hey guys I bought a Hunter TC3500 tire changer and it's not running to well' The motor turns slow one way and hardly the other way and I could hear air leaking down around the motor so I split the motor a part and the gasket was broke in a couple places and the air was leaking out so I ordered a few gaskets for the motor and brake and got them in today so I'm going to put it back together tomorrow. My question is I see there is a fill plug in the top of the motor and a drain plug in the bottom I guess so I assume there is suppose to be oil or something put back in there or is it air driven and just oiled from the air pressure regulator and oiler.
If it take oil or something in there would you guys happen to know what oil goes in it. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks, Jack

Thanks firebirdparts for the reply.
I did already download that manual for it and there really isn't anything in there that tells you anything about that other then to use Hunter Lubri oil in the regulator oiler.

This is often a sign of a failed air motor. Switch the input hoses on the bottom and see if the issues change direction. If they do then move on, but if they stay the same, the air motor is shot.

There is a diaphragm that fails that can also make it go one way and not the other. I want to say it is in the air distribution block down by the pedals.

Unless you drained the oil from the motor, you don't have to mess with it. And some air out of the bottom is normal, that is the exhaust for the motor.

Hi Dave
I had the motor apart because the main seal around the motor was leaking air so I cleaned it out but there was not alot of oil in it. I have a new seal now for it and was just wondering if I have to put oil in there or does it get oiled from the air lines. That was my question if oil goes in there or not if you know. Thanks for the reply

Hi Dave
Quick question' Have you put oil in the motors on the Tc3500 before and what oil did you use.
They call for' Essolube x301 SAE 50 - 1.61 pints and GX 100 (addition agent) 1.4 Ounce
Do you think I can find any of that oil around here I looked all over the place today.
They say today that the SAE 50 oil is an old oil they use to use in the earier days

I sent you a PM. It does take its own oil.

DaveW

Any chance you could PM me with oil type and amount as well. I have a TC3250 that I took apart and rebuilt with a new distribution ring and diaphragms. I thought the oil I cleaned out was just from the Oiler and heavy use over the years. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what kind of oil. I have never had the air motor apart myself. I would assume any non detergent oil of the correct viscosity would work, but I think Jack found the recommended stuff onine somewhere.

If both of you guys have luck fixing these motors, I am going to tear into one of mine and will be asking advice back the other way :)

Thanks,

DaveW
